Hi guys, looking for some help here, I stopped my 305 RS at the side of the road today to grab the hole in the wall and the next thing its idle speed jumped up to 2k-2.5k and wont go back down :eh: , I checked the throttle linkage but it ain't jammed or sticky? Just found it kinda weird how it jumped up so high while know one was even near it, could it be the iac maybe  any help would be great guys cheers

Hi BigBfer  Any joy with your high idle speed problem if not (this may be stating the obvious )but youll need to get it onto scanning gear .I had problem with mine running very rich ,so got it read and it was the Mass air flow meeter. I beleive if you look in the workshop manual it tells you how to pin it out with a bit of wire ,Hope you have sorted it allready Cheers Neil  P.S. Any problems ask Rocky on here .

I had this happen on mine , started her up after a short stop and revs went straight to 2500 , its not done it before.
I stopped and restarted after a quick wiggle of things around the air filter and it ran fine.
(thankfully as we were about 1/2 hour from the ferry)
Does anyone know what would cause this ??

I would check your IAC or like mine a vacuum leak maybe :?: :?:

My problem started from accidently turning on the cruise control at night instead of clearing the windows  :D If am being honest I've had zero time on my hands to do much with her, but did notice that when I moved the vacuum pipe's (plural more than 1 :problem:  ) around the Tbi the idle speed fluctuated but my car had been lying in a container unused for 4 years and all the small vacuum pipe's are quite badly perished, which is all linked to the cruise control 1 way or another. Car was fine when I done it the 1st time, but then I decided to use it again the following morning a parked at a hall in the wall ticking over and it just out the blue jumped up to around 2 1/2 k :wtf: and started creeping up as the day went on

Doe's sound like yours is a vacuum leak thought m8 :)

Sorry Neil av not been on in a while other projects keeping me busy  a think its vacuum related but a did remove the iac also after finding the perished pipes and now it wont idle at all so am gonna just invest in some small dia pipe maybe samco or summit and redo the whole vacuum system around the tbi, cruise control etc etc and invest in a new iac asap on another note any help from anyone regarding tracking down a replacement IAC would be much appreciated cheers dude

Hiya

See link below for an IAC on ebay that fits our cars, i stumbled accross these while searching for other camaro bits.

I have ordered one and will also get some vacume pipe to get fuel injection upto scratch (mine often fluctuates and also is slow to settle back to idle)

Regards Al

I fitted the new iac and had a 2500 tick over to start with , after short drive it has improved and will now idle at 1000 but it takes a while to come down , not sure if thats normal or not.
Thinking of taking to an expert early next year for a thorough check up.
Ive also noticed its noisy from the front of engine , water pump is rattling away! New pump, idler and serpentine on order.

I wonder if the ECU needs to adjust to the new changes? I had some issues with my Clio and it's idling, cutting out etc. During my research i came across info that suggested that ECU's learn input's to self adjust. Ideal for example when rolling out an ECU that's being put in a cars that are sold all over the place, so would need to work in multiple altitudes etc so it is able to self adjust and create a 'new normal' reading. So i did a mini reset procedure, something about turning the key to a certain position, putting foot full on throttle for certain amount of time (engine not running, fly by wire) and a couple of other things and it told the ECU to effectively disregard it's averages that it created as it's reference points and start fresh. It seemed to do the trick! I wonder if something similar can be done?

If they have a KAM fuse (keep alive memory) pull it out that should wipe all the learned values stft-ltft etc etc
had to do it on an audi after fixing numerous air leaks it ran sweet but exhaust manifold/downpipe glowed cherry red
Pulled the ecu kam fuse put back in retested all good
