Not a 100% but try over on thirdgen.org and search. Been asked millions of times.

General sway of opinion appears to be 'better heads, exhaust' before worrying about the cam.
Someone on there has managed to build a 300bhp block with the stock cam...

Hi BigBFer,

Have to agree with "onemanrace", sort the heads out first before you do anything else, most of those 305's just can't breathe, until you can get the fuel in and the exhaust out you are wasting your time.

Cheers.

Russ.

Car Details:69 Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe 350 ci, Candy Apple Red, soon to have 70's gold flaking, parchment interior in Naugarhyde (lol), old skool sbx intake, 600 dp, magnum cam/lifters, hooker headers, th400 manual valve body with 4.11 posi for quick getaways
The third gen RS has a throttle body injection set up when theyb were new. I had one new back in 1989.

With the TBI, when I changed intakes, and other bits, the computer automatically adjusted the air/fuel mixture which is handy. The TPI set up on the Z28/IROC had to re calibrated so if its still TBI at least you wont have to get it recalibrated etc

Stock they only put out 170 bhp (my '89 car had these figures) so you might be cheaper to look for a used small block.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
I had Edelbrock headers on mine initially which connected to a 3" Flomaster exhaust without any cat.
Then a guy on BangShift.com put me onto these, just at the right time as the Edelbrock headers were starting to get holes in them.

You also need the Y pipe. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-17470

I got the 2.5" Y pipe and connected to my 3" exhaust with one of these.(They come in pairs)

I had this Crane cam in my 305, later I installed it in my 350 without computer.
Works just fine, good torque.
Primarily it´s for a computer controlled engine, they have several levels of cam to choose from.
