Hi, new to the whole american scene ( although my brother isn't). 23, got a 1990 rs camaro 5l manual. Car is lovely to drive, but as you all know ( and as its been said so many times) it needs more power.

Now I've read forum after forum, and simple up grades like timing and air boxes are an easy and cheap way to get some. Timing ive done, air box soon to happen.

The bit I'm struggling with is getting a full exhaust system, either mild of stainless, never had so much trouble searching for a full system before. You either have to buy separate headers, then a cat back exhuast and then something to join them, blah blah blah. Where is it possible to just buy headers and an exhaust (as a packege that bypasses the cat).

Next heads, keep seeing vortec heads are best to get ( of a 350 or newer model???) I was wondering where's best place to enquire for heads in the uk?

And next is cam, brother pretty much mentioned what type I need but forgot what he said, again what's tried and tested to get decent power and where from in the uk?

Any regular meets around Derbyshire area?

Thanks for any help, Carl.
Airbox, been told you can get dual snorkel air boxers of newer models, again how much am I looking and where abouts in the uk?

Also what can a stock bottom end 305 tbi take in power?

And please no "drop a 350 in it".

Might be worth having a read through - http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tbi/3 ... ildup.html

Basically, start with getting some good headers and a decent exhaust on it.
I wouldn't worry about a brand name cat back system - a good exhaust place should be able to work you a stainless 2.5" system. Shop for the headers, and mufflers, then speak to a local shop would be my suggestion. You might need to check what the situation is with the Cat, if it needs updating to something a bit more free flowing.

Don't forget, if you're slipping in a new cam, you should probably think about the rocker arms as well, to get the most out of it. A lumpier cam with the stock arms and springs probably won't end well.
Lastly, I believe a better fuel pump might help matters as well.

I'm only speaking from what I've read, not from experience, so hopefully someone with more practical experience can help out.

TBIs are known for poor power, You could switch to a TPI system to boost power a bit but the heads will give you the biggest boost, unless you go supercharger route.

Thinking about it - wouldn't a ECU tune be necessary after a cam change?

Will hve about 600 quid to spend maybe 800. Wanting about 300bhp to make me happy. Can get some headers for 50, cams seem to be really cheap from the states, so will get a comp cam for about 150, heads I assume are about 400 for a pair? And the rest of the exhaust is the expensive bit? Reprogramming I shall do myself.
