oh no, get a new MOT tester who you know lol what exactly was wrong, what did the tester say?, is it the CO emissions content?? If you have cats it looks like they are not doing a good job, or your car is running really rich and dumping too much fuel. |

Hi, the emissions are double what they should be as the c02 reading last year was 3.5, which is normal I beleive, this year its reading is 7 which is way to high and a mot fail. The car was mot'd when I bought it and the gas sheet clearly states 3.5 co2. I ran the car last year, parked it up and put a 14" chrome air cleaner on so doing away the the chevy one. As mine has the T.B.I looks like a carb but has 2 injectors inside. I wonder if the car needs setting up for the new air cleaner, therefore running very rich.. I might put the old original air cleaner back on and try that, as the car has only done 800 miles between tests so there carnt be a great deal wrong.. I hope . Cheers Jason. |

As the car is an import and pre-92 shouldn't it just get a visual test? |

I think the emissions have to be checked on any car for they MOT dont they?. , just to add the cat was removed about 3 years ago so I dont think would cause it? Cheers Jason. |

yeah i just read up and PRE-CAT limits are 3.5% there is no explanation really why it would be running super rich, especially as it hasn't been used. There is a possibility is that actually you just have a carbon build up with the car not been run, if you drove it straight to the test centre and not give it a blast or two there could be build up from not running it. There is the possibility of temp sensor, or air flow meter failure as well as O2s but they are least likely, unless they have build up and thus miss read and put more fuel in?? Ill ask the guys on the american forum and see if they have any ideas. If you can get an de-carb cleaner or something it might be worth a try. |

Post subject: | Re: Failed MOT-emissons. NOW PASSED !!!! |
She has passed the MOT thank god , it turns out that you carnt fit an after chrome air cleaner to a chevy with Throttle Body Injection as the air flow is controlled and factory set with no adjustment, so all I had to do is put the original air cleaner set up back on which has now dropped the co2 reading to 0.93% which is way below the 7.5% reading with the chrome air cleaner on. The legal amount is 3.5% so feeling very happy just means I will have to sell the air cleaner I bought, so if anybody wants a chrome 14" air cleaner thats done 40 miles let me know, but its only alright for a carb set up. , Cheers Jason. P.S, He then gave me an advisory for a noisy exhaugst, its a v8 with a 3" system thats been on the car for 3 years, what does this guy want blood.. |

Thanks for updating us, this has got me worried now! The guy sounds like a jobsworth to me. Don't take it back there again! Anyone know any American Car friendly MOT stations in Rugby/Cov/Warks/ Leicester way? |

Hi,you say the air flow is factory set, well not really the air filter has an AIT sensor which fits in the filter base, you need to unplug it remove from the filter then fit into 14" filter base and plu wires back in.Or place it at rear of engine bay away from heat if you do not want to drill new filter base to fit. When it senses warm air it signals the prom to weaken the mixture,an open element filter will take in a lot warmer air once the engine heats up unless you have a cowl induction bonnet for more clearence.hope this helps.
