Does your filter have the "dropped base" ie how much lower than the mountinmg flange is the base that the element sits on? If possible you want to fit a 3" as it'll cause less air restriction for the engine, cheers...Nige

Hi Nige, Thanks for the reply, the base plate sits fine with plenty of clearance from the coil
and the linkages, I measured it all last night and I need a 3" filter which should still clear the
hood when it is lowered. I rang USA automotive were the filter came from and explained the
problem, the only thing they have is a 14" edelbrock element which is to big for the base
plate, or one measuring 13" 15/32 which is 7.9mm smaller than the filter supplied with the kit
so it will fit the base, I dont know if I should buy this and try it or return the lot and forget it,
as it will have cost about £80 for a chrome air cleaner!!!, what do you think?

SORTED :D :D :D , I bought a separate Pro Gauge 3" filter from automotive, and the lot fits like a glove and looks great, not cheap though at £76

...Cheers Jason. , The filter looks black in the photo, but is chrome.
