Still rather confused, but i went to change the fuel filter and expected issues with loosening the flare nuts and fuel going everywhere. It was a 16mm fitting and it just... came undone! Both of them. Without any swearing or wrestling. Just kind of, behaved like it should. I took my time loosening to relieve the fuel pressure, had a fuel container underneath and it slowly all drained in there. Put the new one in place and it bolted up and no leaks after testing. I'm not sure what happened there.
Buuuut of course something had to happen. While the rear wheels were in the air i decided to check the brake shoes. Drivers side was ok, just needed a clean with a nylon brush to get rid of dust and build up. The passenger side, well that was a shocker... the drum and shoes were covered in grease
Like someone decided to spray oil all over everything. Took ages cleaning it up. Got rid of most of it but going to keep an eye on it. There's no way in hell that brake was doing any braking. It had enough clamping force to allow the wheel nuts to be undone with the handbrake on and the wheel in the air, but i doubt it would have done much whilst the car was moving.
