Completely different.
I decided to spend my last few years before retirement somewhere nice and safe. (Got fed up being shot at and the wife dreaded the phone ringing when I was on duty). So I went into the property room. All day surrounded by drugs, guns and porn, and paid for it!!
Anyway we had a big pile of hydroponic equipment that a guy had used for two major grow rooms blocking one of the storage areas, it was valued at about $6000.
The narcs in charge of the investigation told me to return the equipment to the guy's family. I said hell no, that would be breaking the law. The narcs said that they had come to an 'arrangement'. I still said no.
My sergeant heard this and told me to get a court order and get rid of it, so I did.
Demoted, put on night shift etc.
I appealed the decision with the Police Academy Board who completely exonerated me. The decision went to the Attorney General who again cleared me of any wrongdoing. Then the full details came out.
For a homicide investigation CID got a search warrant for a house. During the search they found growing plants, so they stopped and called in the narcs. The narcs waited 24 hours to get another warrant for the weed, even though they were at the original search. They found the 2 pounds packaged ready for sale, but the growing plants had all been cut down
. they listed on the property sheet (a list of items taken during the search) containers with the stems of 41 recently cut marijuana stems. During my hearing one of the narcs said he never saw any growing plants but saw plenty hung up drying (presumably 41). These plants were not listed on the property sheet, they just disappeared.
So the bottom line is that the guy is charged with 1st degree homicide for shooting another guy. This charge is plead down to manslaughter.
He is then charged with distribution of drugs, not growing them, as the evidence had disappeared, this is then plead down to possession over 8 ounces.
Draw your own conclusions.
