It has dawned on me that (obviously) cars that were conceived as RHD from the outset have their fuel fillers on the opposite side from those that were originally conceived as LHD models.

So our Nissan Pathfinder and my MG (both conceived as RHD models) have their fuel fillers on the left hand side.

Whereas what I would call heavy German Metal has the fuel fillers on the right hand side.

So What I hear you cry!

We all tend to place the car to be fueled up closest to the fuel nozzle for fear of scratching the paintwork.

Well what this means in practice is that seems to be a shorter queue for fuel in England the further south one travels- if we are in the Nissan or MG, because most drivers in the affluent south have the heavy German Metal -or Fords made in Good old Holland.

But in Inverness - which we have reached in the snow the opposite seems to be the case- with a far longer queue for Japanese/ Korean /British makes than the Europeans- ie cars with LHS fillers outnumber those with fillers on RHS!

I am sure that it is upon such minute observations that significant deductions may be made...............

What is the Correct side for fuel filler?

defender on the right and the transit and isuzu on the left so that dont make sense :?
and being at the back can be a pain if your at the front pumps in the firebird :problem:

Transit on the left, BMW on the right, Celica on the left, Camaro on the rear

I do get confused sometimes... :crazy:

yes that is what I thought and the exhaust tends to be on the side that is centred in the road I believe anyway?

Thus a BMW engineered LHD has the exhaust on left (middle of road) where there is only 1 outlet and fuel filler on right

My Clio has the driver on the right of the car (middle of the road), fuel filler on the right of the car, exhaust on the left (curb side). The bonnet release is in the passenger footwell so we can see that being a French car, in Europe everything makes sense, but the only thing they moved for export was the pedals and steering. I like the Camaro because it has an exhaust on the middle of the road and the curb side and the fuel filler is in the middle 8-)
