now safely ensconced near inverness after 1066 mile round trip in last 3 days!

last 450 miles did at average of 69.8 mph and 39.8 mpg car was full to the roof throughout!

trip involved Isle of Man to Rutland -then Devon and back in 1 day for funeral and then Rutland to Inverness

My MG ZT-T has been truly magnificent- I have owned it from new and would buy another next year for sure when my boys outgrow the back seats! Amazing what modern cars are able to achieve.

we did 1600 miles last week attending another funeral criss crossing England

but this was in Nissan Pathfinder with roofbox and bad traffic at times - no better than 32 mpg (fully laden)

Pathfinder is a 2010 version and bought in 2011 with 4k on the clock- now has done 62k!!

Is it not cheaper to fly ?
The cost of fuel, and cheap airlines now, mean unless your 4 up with luggage I can't see how it's worth it sometimes...

slightly shorter trip this time- 800 miles in 6 days- across England in Nissan !
Thank goodness for SatNav warning us of M6 pileup- if we hadn't taken evasive action on A34 A50 north we would have missed ferry!

Still very stressful- this driving in England- how on earth do you guys manage it all? I guess we are spoilt with open roads in IOM and Highlands of Scotland!

Friday night saw 75 miles Rutland to Oxfordshire in 3 and 1/4 hours 2 accidents completely blocking roads!

I think when you grow up with it, you know no better so it becomes the norm. Recently it has been taking my colleague 1 hour to do an 8 mile journey to work :( When i was doing some filing up in Scotland i was the driver of the equipment transit, 1.9tdi and had my foot planted for long stretches as there wasn't anything else about it. You definitely are spoilt there :) I think the survival technique is to be passive aggressive and swear a lot. After a while you get bored of the same swear words, so it becomes a game to come up with creative swear phrases :) It's the grown up equivalent of turning licence plates into words i think

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").
