Either just am completely blind/stupid (quite possible) or my trim tag is missing. I am looking in the engine bay on the cowl to the right, is this the correct spot you would expect to find it? |

What do you mean by trim tag? There is a chassis plate that is riveted to the top of the dash panel and is on the interior of the car. That number is also stamped on the body on the front passenger side, only visible when you take the fender off. From memory, there is another plate (on the left side, but can't remember where, and can't look easily now) that has some more details, but not the trim levels. It may indicate the basic model numbers. On mine (euro import), there is also another plate on the right fender that pretty much repeats that info. AFAIK trim tags starting appearing on 3rd gens, and gave details on the options, and is found in the glove box or console. For 2nd gens you need to be lucky and find a build sheet, hidden either behind the rear seat or on top of the fuel tank. Many are missing or badly damaged - I got lucky with mine. |

The ones i know of are the VIN number, in the dash and visible through the windscreen. The next one is near there, it's on the cowel so lifting up the hood makes it visible, it's inbetween the brake master cylinder and the VIN tag. This usually shows the interior and exterior colour and can't remember what else. There is also the hidden partial vin which is stamped on the firewall, but you need to remove the blower box to see it. I was glad to see when i removed the blower housing, that the vins matched There is apparently also a further partial vin stamped in the front chasis rail leg. Haven't seen this on mine but not really looked for it either. Hope that helps! |

It is this one else I was talking about. Should give details on original paint colour, interior colour and decal colour

Hopefully it's still there, not sure why someone would remove it, unless it was really badly rusted. They are held on via 2 bolts, so it is easy enough to remove if someone wanted to. I took mine off to clean some surface rust on it and underneath it. |
