Hi Guys,

I have what i consider poor brakes, I dont know what they are supposed to be like, I fitted a new booster, master cylinder, rear shoes and rear cylinders, there is no air in the system and the bias valve isnt stuck and I have a good vacuum, they do stop, but need a really good hard push...thoughts anyone?

Did you bench bleed the
master cylinder before installing it?

Yes I did do the bench bleed, the pedal isn`t spongy, its just really hard in the last half of travel, I can lock the wheels if I push really hard, my other half would struggle to do it though, I think I will just strip everything back down and start again....

Silly question, but is it the right master cylinder ? as if it's too big a diameter for example it will work, but pressure will be less.

Other than that, all usual stuff, re-bleed, check for leaks etc..

Did you adjust the rear brakes properly? And you've hooked everything up correctly to the prop valve?

Thanks for the imput guys, Its the correct master cylinder, one for one swap, I pulled the rear drums off to check the adjustment, I can just get the drums off with a little bit of wiggling...I deglazed the front pads as they where a little shiny, no differnt, im just thinking it must still have air in the sysytem, im going to use the old master cylinder cap and drill it to connect a pressure bleeder up and hope that solves it..

oh I also checked the vacuum from the carb,

Sounds likely, as just one trapped bubble can mess up the balance..

Took me ages to get all the air out of mine...

Let it gravity bleed - open up the bleed nipples one at a time and let fluid run through in it's own time. Takes ages, but you can do other things on the car while its going on.

Also make sure you have bled them in the correct order, otherwise you'll never get the air out...
