So, the car has been sat since March when the Mot ran out, and needs some floorpan and sill welding to pass, so after many months of contemplation I'm trying to get it from London down to my welder/fabricator guy in Winchester.

Car hasn't been started since May, but started and ran fine until then, but now it won't start.

Assumed dead battery (it's only a couple of years old at most) as no lights on dash, so had it on charge overnight, still nothing... ignition lights up dash, starter solenoid clicks but won't turn.. hmmm tried to jump it from the Bimmer too, but still nothing but solenoid click..

So with a couple of neighbours help tried to bump start it (as it's manual), only tried twice as we were all knackered from the pushing, but still won't start or catch...
Assume the engine isn't locked or seized at it was turning during bump start, but can't think what to check except jammed starter motor ...

Ideas ???

When you say the solenoid clicks, i take it that it doesn't crank the engine? I would be tempted to check the wires from batt and to ground. I wonder if there's not enough current making it to the starter? Or maybe the starter has jammed? (probably less likely). I have a spare one, seems to be the same size / fitment as stock, if you want to borrow it? Can bring it to Uxbridge if you need on Friday (or tomorrow if we check messages in time).

Sounds like sticky starter solenoid to me.

Had similar issues on a Firebird I used to have. Used to stick a long 1/2 wratchet extension down the side of the engine and whack it onto the solenoid to start it. Not a long term soltion, but may be enough to free it up.

I'd condsider swapping for a mini starter if you do swap it out. I put in one from a 90's truck, direct fit (needed some new bolts to fit), and it's great, far better than the old heavy lump.

Tis already a hi torq mini starter, about 6 years old.

Alas not yet, either been busy working/selling the house/going to funerals or its been raining. ....

I would suggest you begin by grabbing a voltmeter and doing a voltage drop test on the starter cables. Easy and free initial check.

Having a bit of a sh!t few weeks...

Pretty sure it's bad wiring, or starter issue.. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a look finally..
