Hi folks - The windshield washer pump is not working on my 1970 Camaro - my understanding is that it is a mechanical pump operated off the windshield wiper motor? The wipers are working. I am getting power to the electric terminals on the pump mechanism when pressing the washer switch however it does not activate the solenoid (which I assume would engage the drive for the pump?). I tried moving the solenoid switch arm manually while the wipers were in operation but nothing seemed to engage.Any ideas gratefully received. Also looking through various

If you remove your dash to get access to the switch, there is a 2pin plug on the left. This is for the washer pump. I can't remember the colours of hand, but may have it wrote down somewhere. To test all you need to do is link one wire to ground and the washer should operate. This will let you know if the switch is at fault or not.

Thanks Stox58 but as I say, when I press the switch there is power going to the pump mechanism so assume the switch is OK

I can't remember if there's a relay involved? If you can pull the unit out and remove the cover, it should expose the circuit board IIRC and then you can see what's going on a bit better. I think i remember reading before that the relay can go funky, but my memory is a bit hazy on this one sorry.

I thought all 2nd gens had electric washer pumps, integrated into the wiper motor casing.. some vary depending on year and options (concealed, intermittent etc..)

The motor is underneath the wash bottle and the switch works by switching to ground, so it won't just work if you have voltage!

Thanks all - FYG it is a mechanical, piston type, pump which works off, and is attached to, the wiper motor body. The washer bottle is at the front of the engine bay all on it's lonesome - no electric motor.
Also FYG I manged to source a new AC delco replacement from RockAuto in USA and I have to say they provided brilliant service. I ordered it from them on a Tuesday afternoon UK time, paid for FedEx delivery, and it arrived on Thursday morning - I had it fitted and running by 11 am UK time! incredible. Also Rock Auto have a tax pre paid facility so there was no extra to pay on delivery etc like I have previously had when reciving items from the US via the Post Office.
