My engine bay was in need (and still is) of a little TLC in places. The subframe, anti roll bar, steering box and suspension arms were looking a crusty due to surface corrosion.

Bonnet stays, not that tasty either.

Rather than dismantle and paint I opted to spray them in situe. Not ideal I know, but with some careful masking and positioning of the aerosol a satisfactory result was possible. A little sanding first off, then a rust proofer.

On went the primer...

Maybe some of you have seen this product before, and maybe used it too?

Known as Calyx, a U.S. product although available here thankfully. Oddly has a scent of mint too! I did consider the likes of VHT buy a little research on the net proves it to be a bit poor in the job it's supposed to do. Apparently a lot of those spray on heat resistant paints end up crack after time. Due to the compound of Calyx it won't end up doing the same.

I think my manifolds had looked their best a while ago...

Via toothbrush, rag and fingers at points the Calyx was applied...

Calyx requires that once applied the engine is run to temp for a few minutes to aid the curing process, and as you can see it's turned out pretty well! :) Certainly has turned the clock back on that horrible crusty rusty look.

Rusty headers are such a common thing... ceramic coating from new or stainless is the only real solution, but costs big bucks either way... i had a quote of about £800 for some 1 3/4" stainless headers.

Looks like a great fix what you've done though....

Nige (Evilzee on here) had his headers ceramic coated for about £40 at a place in Birmingham. Hopefully he can post up the name of the place. Stainless do cost way too much

I have a feeling that those headers were hot ally sprayed ( much cheaper )
Calyx is an excellent product and works really well on factory cast manifolds as well as headers
