Started on this a few weeks back...

They came out pretty easily, thankfully enough. Driver's side needed a little brute force to release the bar from it's clip on the floor pan. Blue lap belts in accordance with the original interior colour of dark blue.

Sail and quarter trim panels removed, pretty brittle and crusty :(

Finally the package shelf, which has warped due to absorbing moisture.

Image

I was thinking of having a package shelf produced from acrylic or some type of plastic, rather than the cardboard like material that it's made from. Is there any particular reason for not choosing a firmer non porous material for the job?

Wire brushed the surface rust, luckily no serious corrosion at this point! Hammerite's Kurust applied, then top coated with silver Hammerite.

Gonna need a little metal work on one of the seat frames, the rust had chewed this one quite badly.

The hog ties are snipped off...

Image

Might look a little rusty but the frame is solid enough and the springs are pretty good :)

Image

Foam isn't too bad neither. Although for a little extra firmness I intend to place some foam between the springs and floor pan. Strikes me the seats are a little saggy despite the condition of the parts.

Bought these products on the recommendation of Flak Monkey.

Took note of the importance of the prep work. Thoroughly scrubbed with plastikleen and prepped with plasticprep. Very pleased with the end result, the visors have turned out very well. A really nice texture and layering from the Liquid Plastic means the visors look like they original factory parts! :D

From the horrible Carmine Red to a darker shade of black ;)

Continued to remove the rest of the upholstery...

Sill plate wire covers are beyond retirement sadly.

The tools come out and so do the seats!

The condition once again isn't too bad, a little TLC and they'd be pretty good. Ok , so the vinyl has faded and they do sag more than I suspect when they were new. Otherwise just surface rust on the frames and no tears or rips in the covers.

The carpet and sound deadening is lifted, once again surface corrosion is present nothing more :)

Wire brushed and Kurust applied.

I've found all sorts of knick-knacks, lost by previous owners while digging out the interior.

Many coins have surfaced, mostly from our country but this one wasn't. Way back from 1967!

Image

Found the original factory build sheet too, located between the foam and springs of the passenger seat. Unfortunately this relic has seen better days :( Although it corresponds with the VIN, a proper Z28 from Van Nuys of December 1981 :D

The carpet is removed. Sadly it had to be cut in half due to difficulty removing it from the footwells, someone had the idea of gluing it in place.

Finished off the rear seat framework with a couple of coats of silver hammerite. Just awaiting the seat covers from Rick's Camaro's and some new metal to be welded in and that'll finish the job :)
