They only made the V6 in the last year of 2nd gen that I know of, not very popular until 3rd gen 82' onwards... The more common 4.1 litre straight 6 is is a good tough engine, but it won't sound, have the value or have the potential of the V8... |

or like most of us with the later 2nd gens were originally a v6 and have converted to 8 pot V's but then there is a host of other things that need updating like the gearbox to id say a th350, although you can run the 305 / 350 on a th200. it just wont last if you start pushing for more power etc |

Ken, you have made a wise choice to go with a Gen-II F-body. 70-73 models are going to be hard to find and expensive once you do. I'd suggest finding a 78-81 if you can. They won't cost as much as the earlier models and will probably be in better condition. I'd recommend the SBC-350CID (5.7Litre). Go with a TH-350 or TH-400 if you want an automatic. Four-speed manual cars are out there, but are not easy to find. Anything newer than a 1973 will have a Borg/Warner or Saginaw trans. 73'sand older may have a Muncie. You can make the Gen-II's handle as good or better than anything on the market right now...if you put the money in the right place. These are cheap and easy to work on. Parts are still available and a lot of other GM cars parts will interchange. Good luck bro. |
