Hi,
I'm currently rebuilding my 70 Camaro.
It's got a later 350 motor in it which is stamped MB23800 on the front pad.
Can anybody tell me what this is? It was built in Mexico and I'm assuming its a truck motor?
Have done the normal searches but no luck.

The body is having some panel work done at "Retropower" in Hinckley. Type Retropower into a search engine and you'll find it in the projects section. New quarters, cowl, boot/trunk etc. I spent too long looking at the bodywork trying to work out how to go about it.
Gave up in the end and entrusted it to someone who knows what there doing although it really goes against the grain to pay someone else to work on my car.

It's the heads & cam that are handy to know, as that'll give you the power.

Its got poor heads on it, cant remember the casting numbers but better suited to door stops apperently!?
Not checked the cam yet but it's got a lumpier idle than stock so assume it's aftermarket something?

Have dug out a couple of pictures from when I bought the car in 2001 and again when it came off the road in 2005. It failed it's MOT on the rear brakes which turned out to be a weeping axle seal. Decided to pull the axle out and give it a clean up and check over then noticed the botched repairs on the boot floor from underneath. So it went from an afternoon to replace a couple of seals to starting to strip the car for a rebuild...!
Cue marriage and children etc and my grand plans fell by the wayside with all my time going elsewhere and a partially dismantled Camaro. Roll forward a few years and a little bit of time back to me and it's back to the rebuild again.
Will try and post some pics as and when but it's slow progress.

Anybody owned or know of this car before 2001?
It's a 70 imported and registered in 73 with seven previous UK owners, the tub has been seam welded and there are rollcage mounts in place some maybe some race history?
Reg No is SPJ 65M.

Its a crate engine, normally an engine will have 2 numbers stamped into the pad, one being the engine number the other a partial VIN. Yours only has one, so was never fitted to a specific vehicle.

I have a '69 crate engine sitting in the shed. Engine number starts with CE.

Dont worry about it. Its an early 70's block I would say from the casting number, probably 4 bolt. Allegedly a good block to have. Other than that just stick a decent cam and heads on it, job done :thumbup:

Thanks for the info.
Have stripped the motor now and all checks out well for the bottom end, four bolt mains and a crank with no apperent wear.
Bores measure up well and pistons without too much wear.
Now whether to go for ali heads or a decent stock casting..?
Decisions decisions.
