That's great progress over the last few days!

Thanks for the pic, that's great for now as i can see how it should look

The car looks in pretty good shape, has had a reasonably good life considering how most of it looks. Especially around the window area - those are usually rust hot spots but looks like this one had some decent owners.

Keep it up, you'll be done in no time at this rate!

Thanks Ray, been slowly working on the passenger side quarter, and have replaced the front section already, now working on the rear part but have to repair the inner trunk drop offs while I am at it, so it's taking some time...

As we have a 4 day weekend coming up, I stocked up on sheetmetal in preparation, so you can probably guess what I am going to be doing this weekend....

I wonder what nasty suprises lurk behind the old tail panel?

Same here though, i just ordered some paint and bedliner for the underside so fingers crossed that i can get all that done over the long weekend and move away from the rear of the car.

Out of interest how much did the rear slam panel cost and who did you use as a supplier?

In hindsight i would have been better replacing mine so interested in what cost it could have been.

£80+vat. I always use WASP for parts as they are only 2 miles from my house and bits always arrive within a week. cheaper than most other UK suppliers.

I'll probably only replace the top portion of the panel, as the top half is perfect anyway.

That rear window area does look in good nick..

Here's mine when it was being re-done about 6 years ago..

Well it looks ok, not sure whats under the paint, will find out soon enough.

Got the passenger side trunk drop off panel repaired and painted up tonight. Its now ready for the patch panel to go on, but it needs loads of work, the panels a long way off being the right shape.... time to break out the hammers.

I think I need to remove a section of the rear panel so I can reassemble the joint between quarter and rear panel in the best way. Hopefully it will all line up afterwards though!

Oh my 3rd gen steering box arrived today as well, 2.25 turns lock to lock, should sort the steering out. Think my pump is a metric one anyway as well, though it has a small leak. Anyone know where its likely to be leaking from?

Cut out all the old patches and then proceeded with the rot, and there was quite a lot of it. Doesn't look like it will be too bad to repair, but its going to take quite a few hours what with painting things as I go. Also investigated the filler around the trunk opening and found a bit more rot. Nothing too serious, just awkward little patches required in a few places.

Tomorrow I'd like to get the inner panel rebuilt, but we will see how things go....

should have bought all the repair panels for the car and then just made a new shell lol!

Woulda been a good idea!

Cut the new tail panel to fit first, so I could see where the inner panel lower edge needed to be. Took a while, but fairly happy with the results. Got it done in 3 pieces, probably not the easiest way, and it took a lot of hammering into shape.

Just needs seam sealer and another coat of paint. Need to finish the drivers side trunk drop off panel at the front edge, then the quarters can go back on. But I think its going to rain tomorrow so will probably get on with prepping the front suspension for paint instead.

Chucked it down with rain all day yesterday so I started on the front suspension. Removing the bushes wasn't easy, I figured out a way in the end though and the second pair of bones only took about 45mins. After that I cleaned them up. Took all day in the end, filthy job as well. Gave them a couple of coats of paint today, ready to have the bushes put back in now





Today was a much more productive day though. Dismantled, cleaned and painted the front spindles, will reassemble them tomorrow. Dust shields were in decent condition as well, everything was covered in flaking underseal as usual though



After that decided to fix the other trunk drop off panel, awkward job, that lower edge is real complicated. Just need to decide whether or not to put a drain hole in each side now.





Seam sealed the inner tail panel, and gave it another coat of paint. All ready to put it back together tomorrow if the weather's ok.
