Car Details:Camaro genII 1978 LT with later heads from IROC Edelbrock 600cfm carb and performer inlet manifold and period wheels.
All factory items fitted and working. Aircon and Cruise
Silver with Ox blood interior.
Anybody advise me on socket n spanner set for working on car?
Got few a/f sockets
What did you buy
Any good recommendation?

Car Details:Couple of '70 Mustangs
Tons of good stuff out there for cheap these days, try Ebay but best off with Imperials for obvious reasons. I have a few sets, and have been given millions recovered from the local skips - amazing what people chuck out! Best would be branded stuff if you want to pay a bit more - again, try looking around, there's loads on offer! Good luck

You'll laugh at this but its worked... got a socket set from Woolworths about 15 years ago. 1/4 inch drive (aka the smallest size out there), has metric and imperial sockets, from 4mm to 15mm (and the imperial equivalents). Have done most of the work using this! It's in small box so easy to carry around meaning you're not always back and forth to the toolbox. Good times when you accidentally kick it and all the sockets fall on the floor and you have to try and put them all back in correctly. I only break out the bigger socket set (have 3/8 and 1/2 drive) when it comes to suspension / when you need some torque behind it. You'll need 17mm, 19mm and 20 or 21mm (or imperial equivalent) for doing the suspension stuff. One thing to note is that you would be better with sockets that have less, what do you call them - inner sides? :wtf: hmm, how to describe it... the part that's actually making contact with the bolt head - say the bolt is hex (6 sides) but the socket has 12 sides, it is more likely to slip and chew the bolt. You'll usually find the round end of some spanners with loads of inner sides (i'm sure there's a proper word for it!) so these are less favourable, vs one that has the same pattern as the bolt, meaning a 1:1 contact ratio. Maybe also worth looking at getting a torque wrench? I've found this useful and found that i usually over tighten things. Most bolts around these cars i've found to be are 1/2" and 7/16th.

As the guys were saying earlier, swap meets etc are a good source. The older, probably the better! Not much cheap, soft Chinese metal around back then. Even Snap On have moved their manufacturer to China, so the metal used is a lower grade, so don't feel the need to splash out on anything too fancy.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
