Hi everyone, I am a massive muscle car enthusiast and have always dreamed about getting one as a project car, and now I am starting to look more into it. I am only 22 with mediorce vehicle knowledge, but I want to learn all about fixing and repairing vehicles through this process. Obviously due to my lack of knowledge I don't really want to look for total wreckages and work from scratch for my first purchase, but instead want to look for something that runs and gets by, so I can basically learn how to maintain, upgrade and polish it up etc. I strongly believe my dream car would be a 1977 Camaro (basically like Bumblebee in the first Transformers movie). I loved muscle before then but after that film it always became my dream car, and when a local man to me actually had one and I was able to see it upclose as a like for like replica of the movie, I just knew thats what I needed. So, for a young, novice in the field, looking for this type of car, please give me any and all advice to help me in my pursuit Many thanks for being able to join this forum, Tom |

Hey Tom welcome! I'm South Wales, only a million miles away! Try to get your dream car, do it young and you have more time to recover. Heh Heh. Lots of helpful people here so you are in safe hands. Get the car, ask the questions, do the work, be happy! Cheers, Martin |

Thanks for all the replies! So, where is the best place to start my search for this dream car? I have been trying to find one thats already in the UK and car actually work and drive now, but that obviously needs a lot of love and care? I've seen some Camaro's in such state on eBay for example for around £5000. Is that a good starting point also? Many thanks again guys, Tom |

Hi and welcome! Pistonheads has a classifieds section (that's how i found my 2nd gen), also worth looking on ebay, which also helps give an idea of market value (with a pinch of salt). Cars and classics is another one. There are also a few facebook pages around i.e. American cars for sale, camaro owners UK etc. so worth joining those and seeing what comes up. A lot of them have shot up in price thanks to a few years of American car resto shows, so £5k should be about right for a 2nd gen that needs work. Don't forget that a price is just what the seller would like vs. what it's worth. Definitely have a thorough inspection before buying, there are certain rust areas common for 2nd gens and various other bits to look out for. Feel free to ask anything that will be helpful in making a buying decision. Cheers, Ray |
