Post subject:  New Member, Looking for 3rd gen camaro V6 Manual!

Hello everyone,

Following my (short) life long obsession with the 3rd gen Camaro (now 28!) I went to look at my first 3rd gen today, 86' sports coupe, unfortunately it needed a 'bit' of TLC... rust around the outer parts of both rear wheel arches and door panels which would of required some welding, needed new outer T top seals/door seals, work to interior, new discs and a few other bits, also the clutch was really light, as in foot to the floor light?? i understand these are hydrullic clutches so had a feeling they may of been something up with it? (could be wrong)
Asking price was over £1500 with over 100k on the clock, seller would'nt go any lower so I decided to walk away... maybe Someone could let me know if the asking price was correct for the condition of the car? I certainly appreciate these are old cars and will need some maintaining and possible work but I just wasn't sure on this one..

I have to say the seller was a nice guy and spoke for ages about the car and let me have a drive which really did cement my need for one! I really am looking for a V6 rather than a V8 as for insurance reasons and running costs, if anyone out there knows of one available or ever thinks of selling theirs then please let me know!

In the mean time I will keep searching!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome

Good job on wanting to bless yourself with one of the finest looking and sexiest cars ever made...

The difference in running costs between V6 and V8 cars is very little, and I'm suprised insurance is too, but I'm assuming you've had some comparison quotes rom specialist insurers.
Guessing you're scouring the usual ads on Ebay and similar, as that's where most seem to crop up. Rocky is our resident 3rd gen parts specialist but I think he gets the occasional car for sale too, might be worth asking around at local yank car garages if they know any of their customers cars for sale.
These cars often will have rust, as the newest will be 23 years old now, so you're buying on condition rather than mileage.

Hello, thanks for your reply,

Posted this in the 3rd page now and seems to be the consensus there to also look into V8s! i will continue to keep an eye out.

Thanks again.

I love my B/M 700R4 automatic, I´d choose one over manual any day.
It has a cooler and cannister filter on it, really pampered.
