Post subject:  New to the forum and looking for advice on a first time buy
Hi everyone, I have just joined the forum and hoping for some advice.

I am not a Camaro owner yet but very close to becoming one (5th Generation) and looking for any extra information I can get.

With Chevy pulling out of Europe next year I am of course wary of how to maintain the car once I have bought it. I live in Hertfordshire and it would be fantastic if anyone knows places in the county that are genuinely qualified to work on the car.

Any other general user stories and especially what to look out for when buying a used Camaro would be very much appreciated!

Welcome.

Chevy are a huge brand. Even if the cars are not sold over here, parts still come from a massive supplier. The rest is just a case of cars being cars, and qualified mechanics being qualified mechanics. Just find a decent one.

Welcome indeed!

I think you'll be ok for parts - seeing as most parts are generic in some way another, you could try those websites the cross reference the parts and you'll probably find a Fiat for instance has the same part, or shipping from the states isn't too bad on most things and ebay is handy too. I've seen some parts listed as Camaro '67 -'92 so you should be able to locate parts quite easily.

As Cloud says - you should be able to find a decent mechanic, maybe even a vauxhall dealership would work? I would also throw into the mix... how are you with getting your hands dirty? a 5th gen will be so new, it should last for a good amount of time if you look after it (no dukes of hazard style driving lol), without needing any work. Do your own oil, filter etc changes and you should be ok :thumbup:

Some very useful advice here. I certainly intend to take very good care of it and will not be doing donuts in the local car park! I am also more than happy to get stuck in with maintaining the oil etc myself. It's half the fun of owning a car.

I certainly intend to leave my tyres (and gearbox oil) all over the place.

I'll be using a cable-tie locking diff and taking it down to Tesco where all the kids in their Corsa kick it at, then challenge them to a powerslide contest for pink slips. Ah yeah!
