Hey all, This is the only photo I have on this computer of the 1968 Mustang fastback I used to own. Originally a 390GT, when I bought it, it was running a 351c 4-barrel Cleveland engine and had been converted to a Shelby Clone.

Thanks! She was indeed very tidy, had been restored in America and then exported over here. Didn't have to do too much really, but was incredibly thirsty even for a classic American!

It would have better if you had shoehorned a Chevy lump up front :-) |

Lol, as much as I love the Chevy small-block, I certainly wouldn't have changed the engine to a non-ford part!If i'd have had the choice the original 6.3L engine would have been best, but since it came with the Cleveland I couldn't complain. It was also running an Edelbrock Performa manifold and 750cfm carb (too big really for the engine), mated to a 4-speed Toploader and a Ford 9" rear with 4.10:1 gearing and an LSD. That all probably explains why I only got 5-8 mpg and had to be gentle on the loud pedal away from lights otherwise the 285 tyres were just overwhelmed. |

Aye, a real beauty!Yeah, terrible mpg, a combination of the modifications to the engine, too large a carb, and a rear axle ratio more at home on the drag strip gave it a drinking problem! Still a lot better than the 1-2 mpg from a 10L big block I once saw in a Charger at the Ace Cafe - he needed two fuel tanks! |
