Always nice seeing a car getting a thorough rebuild! The SAE etc. type ratings are almost a given these days... they are always superseded every few years so in other words, anything you buy will far outdo the oils back when these engines were built... as long as there is an SAE certificate on the packaging. As to the actual contents (minerals) and weight (e.g. 10w40), that's gonna be the bit that makes the difference. Usually the handbook states the weight, based on the temperature range that the car will see. The hard bit is making sure the right levels of minerals and detergents are in there. A lot of people recommend Valvoline race oils and / or zinc additives. Hope this helps a bit? |

Kenny Coleman- who I reckon is the best engine guy in Europe - from whom I have had 3 race engines since 1990 ps current engine was built in 2000 and has had a rebuild every 5 years (ie 3)- tell that to Ford guys with racing engines and hear them weep reckons on the following oils: 20/50 Kendall GT 1 or 20/50 Valvoline Racing oil or Miller CFS Enduro 15W60 comp full synthetic racing oil 0800 281 053 |

I would´nt go to full synthetic, unless the engine was rebuilt with all new seals. I use Castrol. |
