Post subject:  69 Camaro disc brake conversion

Hi,
I'm a newbie to the site :D
Having been a 67 GTO owner, I just about learnt everything about parts etc. for Pontiacs, however being new to Chevy, I'm now back to novice! I'm soon to be taking delivery of a 69 Camaro, which needs power disc brake conversion amongst other items. I don't believe it's even got power drum brakes, so I'd like to bring her up to pro-touring spec without braking the bank. Are there any kits for sale in the UK that are well regarded, or is Willwood the only main brand? Do I need to import otherwise?

I would like drilled discs that look that part and do the job.

Thanks for any advise!
Paul

Firstly if you had a GTO you are not a novice, all of the '60s family of GM are similar and share many parts that interchange easily, in fact the bodies are often the same but with slightly different outer panels and trim ...
If you want value for money go straight to Ecklers ( Rick's) Camaro .
They have 2 kits that would suite your needs
1- 67-69 front disc brake Big Brake conversion 13inch cross drilled slotted zinc rotors hubs spindles calipers all for $900
2-C5 Corvette upgrade for 67-69 cars all the features you want -big discs drilled and slotted with special Corvette spindles, calipers and all hardware to mount on a 1st gen .
The stopping power is awesome on C5s and the price is only $650 8-)
If you prefer you can deal with a UK middleman who will jack up the price you pay for something like Wilwood, but your car will not stop better because you spent more money ...

Many thanks for the reply and for reassurance there are not too many major differences between GTO and Camaro! I'll look into the C5 option. I'm not a brand monkey, but wasn't aware of good quality options that look and perform the business.

Thanks again!

I think with any front disc conversion you'll need to change the whole spindle as the drum ones are different.
I've got a C5 vette conversion on my 2nd gen and it works well... uses modified standard Camaro spindles with, standard vette calipers and discs on a custom hub.

You are correct Stu, the kit from Eklers includes C5 spindles with a 'vette type sealed bearing, apparently it helps stop flex on the stock spindle that can happen due to the greater forces generated by the Corvette system . Spindles, vette hubs, rotors, calipers mounting hardware and braided lines all included in the kit !
Gotta be the best bang for the buck brakes on the market !
