since Ive had my car there's been a slight whine while driving but it seems like its getting worse now,
here's a video of the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATdSu0DFm4Q the change in sound is when i take my foot off the gas.

i took the cover off the diff and found no metal particles and only very slight metallic dust in the oil, it seemed OK to me?

i also checked the prop, there is a bit movement where it fits to the gearbox is this normal?
video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__Xg0bF ... e=youtu.be

and i also checked the gearbox oil,its a gearstar 700r4 stage 2 box, its a bit clunky when it goes in gear but i checked the oil on the dipstick and it was on the full level and still looked brand new.

Bit hard to tell from the video but it does sound like diff whine. Doesn't always produce visual evidence (metal particles). Has it started suddenly or been there for a while? Getting worse? Can't see much in your prop vid, some rotational play is normal, question is how much. Does look to me like the prop yoke is maybe not far enough into the tailhousing though.

its been doing it a while but seems like its getting worse now, when i had my supra the diff started to whine like this due to a leak on the oil cooler and oil starvation, there was visible wear on the gears then, when i cracked the diff cover off on this tho it was still full of oil and no signs of wear. maybe the powertrax diff wasn't fitted right?

Yeah, I spotted the diff there, is it a recent addition? If the R&P settings were changed when the new diff was fitted, it's quite possible this has caused a problem which you are now hearing. It may already be too late for the R&P. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you may well need a rebuild there :(

Ive not long had the car or used it much, i noticed the sound straight away on the way home and it was fitted new in 2009

I completely rebuilt my rear end only to have it whine so I took it all out and readjusted the pinion backlash,
to a lower number.
It still whines but not so much.
Now, did I bugger up the bearings when it was over tight or is it still too loose,
it´s so hard to tell as a complete novice axle re-builder...

While driving I have the motor noise, exhaust and some transmission, the axle is in the background and only under certain conditions, so to actually diagnose the noise source and why is very difficult.

As I said before in your other post on this problem, you can strip it all out and still not see signs of damage or wear to the bearings or bearing races.

Reason I asked is simply to see how far you were from Hausers. They would be able to sort you out.
