Butch runs 15 wheels - since I like to keep things as historically original as possible- obviously this means that Butch's brakes are compromised as compared to some of the competition esp in SA where 16inch wheels are the norm. But one possible advantage may be the fact that we might be able to squeeze larger tyres under the front inner fenders.- please note that most historics require the front inner fenders to be intact. I have ordered a new pair of Hoosier RS6 in 275/50/15- to fit on the 8 inch Revolutions- bearing in mind the car is lowered (see below) - the question is will they fit? My plan is to do away with ALL those 1/2inch bolts that tie the front inner fender to the wheelarch- and if they don't fit them on the back and get a pair of 245/50/15 s for the front- pictures show Butch in SA wearing the 245/50/15s not much room there! we do have the negative camber roll front end - so the neg camber does not appreciably move to positive upon compression will let you know the results IDC |

I dont know about the front but Nige said you can get 17" x 9 1/2" w/ 5 1/2" b/s and 275 tyres on the rear but Northants plus others said you cant.. saying maximum is 17 x 8 w/ 4 1/2 b/s and 255 tyres..well due to availability and costs thats what i went for and now looking at it i could easily get 9 1/2 w/ 5 1/2 b/s and 275 tyres on so... listen to Nige Attachment:
fronts are 17 x 8 w/ 4 1/2 b/s and 235 40 17 tyres.......

From the reading i've done it's about the backspace on the Camaro's 4.5 is the 'norm' but i've seen people go up to 5.75 backspace. So that 5.5 sounds about right. I've got 275's on the second gen on from what i measured, is a 10.5" wide rim with 4.5 BS, and it can definitely move further in so a 5 or 5.5 BS would be optimal. |

Bit of a disaster! Apparently my new 275/50/15 Hoosier R6s don't even fit the rear let alone the front- the 68/67 has a smaller wheel tub than the 69 and gen 2 This is on the 8 inch Revolutions These are brand new Hoosiers which have had road grooves cut and cost me £245 each!! Hoosier don't want them back as they have had the road grooves cut in them! any takers? Will post up pictures IDC |

Hi Tim, where are the tyres rubbing at the rear? The inner wheel tubs are the same on the '68 & '69, the only difference is the shape of the outer wheel tub, due to the shape of the '69's rear 1/4 panel. It's possible to get deeper inner tubs which will take up to a 335x35 15 ( or any of the 17" -20" wheels/tyres) but I guess you don't want to go that route as it involves cutting into the boot floorpan. Is the problem down to the backspace on the wheels you have? As Farl Coggety says, you should be able to get 275 X 15's 's in there with the right wheels. hth cheers...Nige |

They haven't fitted the tyres to the rims for fear of damage! I think they tried fitting same to my 8x15 Revolutions with 4 1/2 backspacing- Now that Hoosier wont take them back I am going to be a little more ambitious. Butch is much lower than stock of course- and I cannot tub the wheel wells- can't even remove the front inner fenders either and stay within Historics! As they put it we can make them fit even on the front but you wouldn't have an historic racecar- more a funny car! In the meantime I have now ordered a set of 245/50/15 s at least they took pity and gave us a healthy discount on these!! |
