Car Details:'67 camaro coupe, 5.7 V8, Blue, left hand drive.
This car was built by GM in Antwerp, Belgium. I believe the cars came partly pre assembled from the US and were finished in Belgium.
It was originally white with a straight 6 (which i have stored in Belgium) but had a heavy duty V8 fitted when i bought it. This engine has since been replaced by a 350cui, 250 hp crate engine.

Hi guys and galls,

i am about to embark on a total overhaul of the brake system of my first gen. Due to work and family commitments the last few years, the car has been stood alot and now the master cylinder has gone. As it could do with new brake lines and flexi hoses i thought this is probably the time to get the whole lot stripped out and do a major overhaul. Also the balancer needs sorting or replacing as the rear wheels have always had the tendency to lock up.
I have had the car for over 10 years now and when i bought it it was a collection of bits so i dont know how original all the parts are, especially the master cylinder. I remember having to change the cover and retaining spring as there was a clearance issue with the bonnet.
It has a servo, discs up front and drums at the back. Could anyone tell me what spec the original system would have been? What master cylinder (bore/ single chamber or double etc), what calipers, slave cylinders (again bore) etc. Also, if anybody has done similar work recently, what part supplier was used and what part numbers? I have used Year One and NPD in the past and was happy with their service. However, the NPD website has changed and very little images of parts are available which can make identification difficult and i cannot see a like for like master cylinder on the Year One site.
I will be starting to strip out what is there in the next couple of weeks so will be able to share what parts are fitted at present but untill then, any thoughts, experiences, recommendations, suppliers, partnumbers - anything usefull really- is most welcome.

I refurbed my brake system about 18mths ago and should have part numbers wrote down I'll have a look at weekend :thumbup:

Off the top of my head with disc/drum the master cylinder will be a dual chamber 1,1/8 bore, although I used an aftermarket master cyl. as a mate had a freshly refurbed one spare that was the same as the one already fitted
I'd advise reading up on bench bleeding, lengths of the actuating rod, etc on camaros.net loads of good info that could save hours and lots of head scratching.

I found USautomotive very good on brake parts also rock auto in the states are good (and cheap) to deal with ideally if you have part numbers
Have a look on ebay usa, the original looking master cylinders with built in bleeders would probably be choice if I were to need one again

as said, any information is most welcome! And, should you get around to it, a few pictures of what your set up looks like would be fab. I'll be away for a few days from tomoro but will upload some images myself so people can advise if what i have got is original.
I currently have a two chamber master cylinder but have to strip it to check the size. It has no bleeders which is a b*tch.
Did you strip down the balancer? And if so, is there spares for them? Have never opened one up before so dont know if there is any servicable parts in them.
