Dear All I thought I would share last saturday's Dramas with Camilla with you! Camilla is my nos matching 1968 Camaro Convertible Knowing that we had some classic car events coming up- plan a was to get her started after the winter layup and enter same , The carb needles needed a blow through, battery on charge = fine! Collected following weekend , started fine and took her to jet wash to begin the "big clean" Fine but wouldn't start after jet wash- convinced it was my fault being too enthusiastic with jet wash! Chap helped me home after having failed to jump her Arrived with stuff (in MG ) to sort out issue Got it going Then broke down again on TT course in front of loads of cars Opened bonnet to see big fuel leak, by this time no less than 3 friends had dropped by to offer assistance/lifts etc got one to drop me home where my architect was wondering where I was! He took me back to Garage where MG (and spares were) then zipped back to my shed collected fuel pipe and fitted same to Camilla. No good still no spark back to shed to collect trailer to collect Camilla ( and via collecting my children) dropped off Camilla to be fixed - trailer to shed and back home whole exercise had taken 6 hours! Problem was diagnosed as a faulty Coil!!! No wonder this AA RAC relay option takes so long! Incidentally my architect has a yellow vest- he suggested I wear it whilst under bonnet- why? Well it did make a difference in that drivers gave me more room |

Sorry to hear about Camilla ,even the nicest cars seem to have awkward moments... Jetwashes are a hazard ,I always cover my engine and ignition in plastic before a very brief spray ,even then its a bit like Russian Roulette as they are so powerful. I know its a pain but sometimes a bit of a session with some small paint brushes , a toothbrush and some paper towels is the safer option... |

agree re jet washes IN fact a new coil will solve the problem have also replaced the battery (under warranty)- so here's hoping all's 100%! |

Just picked up Camilla - now back from hols with children etc we replaced the ignition leads as well as the coil- now she's running perfectly! I also fitted a pair of Cooper Cobra 245 60 15 on the rear- new tyres (NOS) that I found on EBay. These are VR rated. These have been the tyres I have been after for Camilla for some time- they are no longer imported because of being (allegedly) made of "dirty" oil - which is not acceptable to EU!! I could really do with another pair for the front............................. So if you find these and similar tyres in good big US sizes my advice is to bag them while you can! We have a big show behind the Grandstand this coming Saturday to mark the beginning of Manx Grand Prix- the historic bike races.
