Post subject: | MOT help |
Hey guys, I am a US service member currently stationed here in England. I imported my 67 over here and took it to the MOT station on base and it seems like it is going to be a lot of work to make it "street legal" over here. Does anyone know a friendly MOT tester or some shortcuts? I am mostly going to be taking it to Santa Pod and maybe a few shows, will not be a daily driver. Thanks Dan |

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum, nice looking car ya got there. As Mark said, what sort of things are stopping the car getting an MOT over here?? the way things have tightened up with the MOT's over here lately, it's doubtful if there are any short cuts to be made, but I guess it depends on what you term "short cuts" cheers...Nige |

Noise I guess would be the biggest issue, dual pipes with flowmasters but it is loud, I don't know if I can quiet it down without buying a new exaust kit. Rear turn signals need to be orange?, windshield wipers since it has none, sideview mirrors - I have a set but I just can't bring myself to drill into the door panels, and from reading the other post I need to install shoulder harness... would it work if I only isntalled a set on the drivers side? I think it is about all of it |

the noise may be an issue, there is a decibel limit, but i have taken cars for MOT with only a pair of dynomax race bullet mufflers, loud as hell, still passed !the red turn signals is a fail,(post 1964? must have amber signals) most mot testers will pass them if red though. Wipers, fair enough, you'll have to fit 'em ! i think, (not 100 % though), thaton a 67 car, you only require 1 rear view mirror, (can be inside the car) and as for seatbelts, if all it has are lap belts, it should pass. |

Thanks for the help guys, after I finish repainting the engine bay I will take it in and see how it goes. Is there any MOT shops that you suggest? |

Partially agree with earlier comments - but 'the noise may be an issue, there is a decibel limit' is not strictly true unless the rules have changed again in the last couple of years - when I last checked, the terms in the MoT manual stated the car should not be significantly louder than the original car with original exhaust. If you have any modifications, eg a different engine etc, it should be up to the MoT centre to prove that your car with those mods is no louder than a standard car with those mods ... which they won't be able to ... that's how my last 3 garages interpreted the rules, as long as the exhausts aren't blowing anywhere it should be ok ... if that makes sense You DO need wipers, but as stated before 1 rear view mirror (can be internal) is acceptable, as are lap belts if that was what was originally on the car. |
