Please guys, I am thinking of buying this car - seeing it this weekend.
It has come up for auction 4 times since Oct 09 always at crazy reserve px but is now potentially more reasonably priced.
I really want to know who did the work - knows the car etc?
The original owner will not comunicate I think it may be a representative sale so not much info available?

SOrry for short notice.

Thx I agree - I have looked back into the auction history, seems was owned for 20 years by a dental surgeon who must have spent heaps on the ride.
For whatever reason he seems uncontactable and it has been stored in central london and comes up for auction every 4 months since at reducing reserve prices (£36k down to £25k now)
I think at around £20k it would be alot of car - needs better rims, boot spoiler and paint colour more in keeeping with 69 though - suggestions welcome.
Will be flat broke if I get her anyway. (and hiding from the wife)

I recognise that car, it's been featured in Custom Car magazine twice. It was orange when it was featured the first time & was then painted silver, probably about 7 years ago or so. It was owned by the same person all of that time, he'd had it for years. It had a big block fitted & quite a bit of money spent on it as I remember & was probably one of the first Pro Touring Camaros in this country. It was on the front cover of the mag when it turned silver if that helps

Thanks for all that Nigel spoke to Stephen warnes today gave me loads of info on the car really helpful.
Shows how effective these forums are.

I would love some more guidance- guy has not looked after it, bubbles on pain t, kept in open underground garage near River Thames under a soggy cover etc.
Engine cant see as bonnet wont open - going to cure that hopefully friday
He has advertised it again at £25k , I think its worth no more than £21k what do you guys think?

If there's been a soggy cover over the car & it's got bubbles in the paint (small ones I take it?) it's probably suffering from microblistering. This occurs when cars are covered over for any period of time. The damp in the air gets trapped between the cover & the paintwork & unless the cover can breath (Even then i don't trust them) the moisture can't evaporate, so ends up impregnating the paint forming small bubbles about the size of a large pin head.

Unfortunately the only cure is to strip all of the paint off & start again. If you were to only flat it down, the blisters will come back to the surface of the paint in warm weather. If the car's been stood for any length of time it's possible that it might need a bit of work doing to it to "recommission" it, like sorting out brakes, electrics etc etc. If it's been stored in damp conditions, check for signs of corrosion in the floor pans & boot area, plus all of the usual places (like everywhere).

I know the car has had a lot of time & money spent on it in the past & to replicate that would cost a lot more than they're asking, but that would be for a car in good condition. It really depends on how much work the car needs to put it right, as £20K is a lot of money for a car that needs the bodywork stripping to a bare shell to paint & that's not including any of the other things that might need doing. hth

Thx - you guys are great.
The bubbles are not pin head size, they are top of bic pen size.
Seller is adamant and wont drop below £24.5k which is mad in my opinion.
I am going to see it again with another Camaro expert and will look to repeat my offer at £ 21k (which is toppy, but I love it)as I think it is buyers market at the moment and especially for this kind of condition.
Painting it properly is going to cost me £5k minimum right?
Please tell me if I am mad - wife has already told me so and no doubt thinking up suitable punishment as I type.
