If you´re doing it for the first time it´s difficult. I sought advise, watched all the relevant YouTube videos, and you don´t know who´s telling you right. You need a bloody stout bearing puller, slide hammer or you´ll never get them out. And you need a press to install bearings too. You just don´t take out the old and plop in the new.The new ring and pinion have to match the carrier. I bought a new carrier off RockAuto only to find it was only partially machined. For the inexperienced pinion depth and ring gear shimming is a nightmare. One tutorial video had the "professor" drop the ring gear in, dip the feelers and call it good. To do it comfortably in yer backyard it´s a good idea to get the axle out of the car, I could´nt imagine doing it with the car on axle stands. An awful lot of this... Don´t overdo pinion tightening... Or you ruin a bearing.....start over... The muther whines, I´ll live with it. |

Aww, don't scare him off, changing my gears and fitting an LSD was good fun... but I would NEVER do it again! You'll want new gears, and to be honest you'll be better off ringing up either Hauser Race Cars or Southern Axles (Paul Letchford) and getting them to just do the whole work, including buying the gears. Hauser are an importer of parts as it is, so they will get a better deal on shipping. |

ME neither..... With cars there is no "cheap" fix, especially if you pay someone else. Cheaper in the short term to learn by doing it but it´s the lucky man who gets it right first time. |
