Does anyone have one kicking about? I don't have one.

Or could i make one myself? I have a stainless steel sports bottle that i could use for it. Just not sure what i need to do.

My understanding of the cooling system is that when the radiator gets hot and pressure increases to 15psi, the radiator cap has a spring that opens a valve to let coolant flow out. One thing i've never understood is how the coolant gets back into the radiator from the expansion tank, if the cap only opens when it's above 15psi. I've seen on the trans am that the tube come out of the radiator and into the expansion tank and it lets you know the coolant level. After being traffic for a while, the level goes down and i need to top up, so it seems that the water evaporates away through the hole in the expansion tank cap. Is that how it should be?

So if i adapt this stainless steel bottle, i guess i just drill a hole in the cap to get the rubber in, then a small hole as a vent and that's it?

The coolant bottle is fed from the bottom. As the temp cools the water is sucked back into the radiator.

You could probably achieve the same with a top feed, provided the hose went right in and gets near the bottom of the bottle.

Interesting, i will have to look at the system a bit more closely. I could only see 1 pipe, need to figure out how the rest of it fits together.

Found this guy but don't fancy spending nearly £50 on it

Things are starting to make a bit of sense now, thanks for the help so far. I found this (i'm a visual person so pics always help me understand things):

It looks like the factory fitting is to have a hose go down to the bottom of tank and then there seems to be a second hose that seems to be just a vent. I guess as it's a stainless steel bottle, i could always weld in a barb connector to the bottom, so the water feeds up. Then, drill a hole in the top of the cap so that no air pressure builds up.

It looks as though i can buy an original style tank, but i dont' have the steel plate that mounts to the inner arch. hmm

Go careful. I'd advise against a hole in the top, unless you add a pipe directing it down. Last thing you want is a jet of hot water coming up from it. Also consider heat transfer from a metal can as opposed to the stock plastic.

That's a good point about the heat. I have seen that you can get overflow tanks in stainless from the aftermarket, but it's probably not a great idea having an additional hot metal tube in the engine bay to catch your arm on, if you can have a plastic one instead. I found a universal plastic one, may look into that instead as it's also a UK seller so far cheaper on postage.

Ok so it looks like a Mini One overflow tank will work. Looks about the size and mounting holes look like they're roughly in the same spot (i'd have to make a bracket anyways). The only thing is, it doesn't look like there's a vent / vented cap on it. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=mini+ ... NHg2nSM%3A

Orrrrr as i plan on visiting the U.S in September / October, i could get one from there at a normal price, should i just risk it with the overflow tube hanging down? I won't be doing many miles and drove it about 100 miles with no coolant tank on the way home so i guess it could wait?
