Car Details:1988 IROC-Z, custom interior from the 90s.
The drivers side inner door handle on the IROC has let go - I've tried rescrewing it in, but there's barely enough thread on it to bite the sheet metal.
The stock item looks like it's about 1.5" long - 2" would give me a little more bite and hold the handle on more securely.
Anyone have one knocking about?
I've tried B&Q, even Halfords, and if I have time on Saturday I'll try and think of somewhere else locally, but if anyone's got something knocking about that's suitable I'd love to have it from you!

Cheers!

I've got the standard one, but it doesn't seem to be quite reaching far enough into the door to give a secure hold.
The only other option I can think is to trim some of the material off the handle itself.
Thinking about it more now, I don't know how close the glass sits to that end of the screw, maybe a longer one isn't a good idea.
Cheers though. :)

I'm sure I welded a nut into the door and used a long bolt on my Iroc cos mine kept falling out..

I know definately did the same on my 2nd gen (before the 'upgrade' to Nissan Micra armrests  )

can you take a thin piece of wire rod and poke it through and see how far it goes till it reached the glass, then maybe wind the glass up and down to make sure it doesn't move closer in during up and down movement. That should give you an idea of max length, then pop down b&Q / wickes, fastner place and get a slightly wider one for grip and slightly longer to make sure it reaches. too many innuendos in that sentence.

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Some great ideas!
Thanks guys.

I'm amazed the standard fit lasted so long:

(You can see the mess my mechanic has made of the false torx head bolt...)

And that's with the screw all the way in. Hardly anything there to bite with!

Thats not the right one by the look of it, The top of the handle always has a longer torx screw than the lower 2 on a camaro I will get a pic for you just to check.

Hi Alex just been looking at my door where it screws in looks totally different but mine is an 89 ,can you show me a view from further away? just measured from door to glass is over two and a half inch so a longer screw would be no probs, see what Rocky comes up with ,but you shouldnt have mouch trouble getting a course thread screw to fit , it dose,nt have to be a torx head Cheers Neil P.S. if you can,t sort it let me know P.P.S where the screw gose in if you put something (hardened steel) like a nail punch and bend the slot closer to geather, that way when you put your new screw in it should be tighter and not work loose, also check the other side it may have a longer screw :? in ?once again Adios

Took the other two bolts out of the door pull.
Yup, two small ones in the lower holes, MUCH longer bolt in the top one.
All sorted now.
Inspiring confidence in their abilities as mechanics? Not so much.
