Post subject: | Lots of 2nd gen parts - axles, subframes, body panels |
Hi all, I'm working with a guy to part out 5x late 2nd gens. The cars are at his, so I'm acting as the middle man - he's not a Camaro guy so I'm helping list things and deal with enquiries to keep him out of the loop until someone wants to buy something. First of all, answers to what will be popular questions: 1) Can I buy the car(s) whole? A) Sorry no, my first thought too! No V5's, cars are cut up on the inside and some have things like fire damage - sadly these are parts cars only 2) Engine / transmission? A) No engine or transmission 3) Whereabouts are the parts? B) Around M3 M25 area - pick up possible but need to know you're buying ahead of time, not much time for browsing (for bigger parts yes, but for smaller parts we're working on that...) 4) What year are they? A) Decoding at the moment but they are all late 2nd gen (78-81) and a couple of 3rd gens too (will confirm year next week). 5) What's the condition? A) It's a mix but overall I'm quite impressed. For example, I've never seen a set of fenders that aren't rusted out at the bottom. Until today. And they are factory original. Generally, I've hardly seen much rust! I'm decoding some of the vins and two so far are Van Nuys cars (California) so likely lived in that area explaining the condition. There are 3 that are mostly intact and 2 that are kind of not really cars anymore, but have salvageable bits like subframe / axle. Here's a rough list (will have more info next week, i didn't have much time today so it was a bit of a rush so may need to correct some of the below). If you don't see something, just ask: 5x rear axles, all drum brakes (working out the ratios and casting bits next week. So far 2 likely are from a 305 car (not sure what ratio that will be, but most axles had 10 bolts). 5x subframes - with suspension, A-arms, springs, everything ready to go! 5x sets of leafsprings (all multileaf) 4x bonnets (Z28 style), will check if all are genuine, some are in better condition than others 1x Decent trunk lid 1x Ok trunk lid, will need a bit of body work but you'd likely do that anyway as any trunk lid would need prep and paint. 1x rear windscreen (non heated) 1x steering wheel 2x front windscreens (will double check for cracks) 1x front clip (no subframe but has inner wheel arches, fenders, bumpers, rad mount etc.) 3x sets of Z28 fenders. Very impressed by the condition. Will double check they are Z28, I know one pair definitely is. Not sure if the others had vents stuck on. Hood hinges, quite a few sets but no springs on them. Several sets of doors, some are dead straight and no or minimal rust. Several door mirrors, some with glass some without Some seats (front and rear but will require a retrim as original fabric / pleather Various window chrome trim (front and back) Horns (beep beep) |

I’m very interested in a 10 bolt rear axle, if it’s a posi unit. Also a z28 power steering box (late type, metric) and a z28 front sway bar (thicker than my non z type) Also, an original set of twin horns would be good. Sure there is lots more, but those bits are of HUGE interest to me :-) |

If possible, the axle with the rear sway bar is the one i’d Like. Only the z came with a rear sway so hopefully that is a posi rear with a decent ratio. The one in the 2nd and 4th pictures in your second post. Also the power steering box and front sway bar in the 2nd picture in your third post, looks (I think!) thicker than mine so hopefully also a z sway and high ratio box.......Cheers, and I’ll leave you in peace now :-) |

No worries ask away! Ok I'll keep note of that axle - once the cars start getting taken apart the parts will amalgamate into one. Will have to mark everything up with chalk so we know which one they came from for easier reference. I'm using this page to help decipher what the axle castings will mean when we find their numbers: http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/rearaxle.html From the look of it, they will all be 10 bolt, from 305 or under engines. I didn't get to see the trim tag on the potential z28 (no hood springs to hold the hood up!) so maybe that was a 350. I need a PS pump too so i'll put one aside for you as well, I think each car had one. There are two 3rd gens also for breaking, would those PS boxes be better? One is from a genuine Z28 3rd gen as confirmed by Rocky. Not sure about the whole metric box thing, I've only briefly heard it mentioned so not sure about compatibility / what to look out for. |
