I will be racing my '69 Camaro (no 55) at Thruxton on Sunday 31st March (Easter Sunday) in the Historic Road Sports - Practise at 10.45, race at 1500 or thereabouts.

Happy to say hello to an Foumists who drop by. Bad news is that the temp is likely to be only 6C/7C (Happy Easter !); good news is that the Sunday forecast is dry (at the moment).

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum. I take it that it's Hugo Dixons old car that you have? post up some pics of it when you get a chance. Martin (sportsroof on here) races with the HSCC I'm sure he'll be along soon to respond to this

cheers...Nige

ps keep us informed as to how it goes

Hello there, Nige and thanks for the welcome.

Yes, quite correct, it is Hugo's car. After he died, the Chev sat in his garage in N. London for a couple of years : as you know, that does not mean the car gets any better ! Finally the executors put it up for sale in 2012.

I know nothing and I know nothing about Camaros. Finally found an expert who has gone through the car mechanically from end to end. I raced it at Oulton Park and Silverstone National circuit last year and next w/end is the first race of the season.

When I learn how to post pix, will do.
Nick

Hi Nick, we met at Silverstone last year for the Finals, I have the yellow No3 Mustang in HRS. I am entered for Thruxton too, never been there so it will be a learning curve for me, let's hope the snow is not too deep. You certainly showed me a clean pair of heels at Silverstone in the damp practice session, but I was getting close to you in the dry race. Good to see another US Musclecar being raced and it's nice to see Hugo's car being used as I'm sure he would liked. See if we can meet up again for a chat at Thruxton.
Cheers, Martin

Martin,
Yes, I think Silverstone was a flash-in-the-pan ! However looking forward to meeting you at Thruxton - current f'cast +5C, windy, cold but dry (mind you 4 days to go for the weather to change - the forecast has changed from wet to dry and back again at least three times !).

And, Tim, Thanks ! and look forward to meeting you and seeing your car on a circuit soon.
Yrs
Nick

Err, yeah - been busy doing other stuff or would have posted.
Basically cold day (Sunday) but dry so not too bad, practice was mainly a learning process as I've not been to Thruxton before. Very fast circuit with a few 'blind' corner entries but mostly flowing well. The heater in my car blew at the end of practice, steaming up the screen just as I was entering the chicane with a couple of other cars around me - not a good thing to happen but luckily right near the entrance to the pit lane so after creeping back to the paddock, bypassed the heater and checked the brakes ready for the race after lunch.
I qualified 8th and Nick was 12th but at the start, Nick managed to blast away and was on my back bumper within seconds. We then had a good old battle for the next 20 minutes with Nick's Camaro looming in my mirror in the slower sections (chicanes) and my Mustang opening up a decent gap on the faster parts of the circuit. In the process, we both picked up a few places including passing a faster qualifying Ginetta whose driver later admitted he nodded off as he was in a 'dead zone' with nobody near him to race with! Upshot was that I finished 6th with Nick 7th right behind me. We both had a great time and even the MSA officials came over to thank us and say what a good show we had put on. Very enjoyable day for me and I know Nick enjoyed it too, not least as he also set fastest lap for class A cars during the race! Well done that man!

This is a good gallery, go onto following pages for more pics.
Probably other pics on the web if you want to look but these should give an idea.
Cheers, Martin

Hi Lovely looking cars- what sort of tyres can you run in HSCC?

I had a quick look at the HSCC regs- but it does look as though Butch is non compliant in certain not germane respects.

My guys think we can easily get FIA papers (only need to change the callipers for an older design) and an MOT (add a handbrake) and go play with the CSCC (Classic & Sportscar Club) anyway- where Butch is fully compliant.

At least we can now be UK noise regs compliant when we want to be (by fitting the optional back boxes!)

I see I have mentioned compliant 3 times above- must be because we are being deluged with more and more Compliance requirements as a business here!!
