Once again the three day Bank Holiday weekend is expected to draw top American show and go muscle cars from all over the country as fans prepare to hoist the star spangled banner across the Stratford-Upon-Avon countryside.

Steve Wooldridge, the new National Association of Street Clubs chairman said, "We are pleased to be hosting Gary’s Picnic at Shakespeare County Raceway again as the event works perfectly for us with a wide variety of yanks, rods, and customs all competing for cash prizes over 3 days of close, exciting racing."

Originally founded in 1974 by a dedicated band of enthusiasts the NASC has grown rapidly with more than fifty associate clubs under one umbrella organisation. It encompasses both the Street Rod and Custom worlds as well as the Drag Racing fraternities hence Gary’s Picnic; an institutions for the last 32 years. A true show and go party weekend brought to life by the founder of the world famous London based Gary’s Shack in 1979; Mr Gary Healey.

Drag racing historian’s will also remember Gary for his ‘Shark Attack ‘57 Chevy drag car, and for having his name Gary’s Shack on the old Stardust Barracuda Funny Car called American Dream for Capital Radio DJ Mike Allen to drive in the late seventies.

Apart from the many V8 grudge matches, the drag strip will be used to full capacity thanks to the touring drivers and teams that make up the big, bad and blown world; the Supercharged Outlaws. Also prepare yourself for a special Big Bucks Bracket Gamblers ET Race featuring qualifying sessions and knockout eliminations, a round of the highly competitive Outlaw Street series, plus the guys and girls from invited European and UK Outlaw Flat Fours; the American gassers and hot rodders of the VW world. There’s going to be a European SVT Meet as well. Additional classes and attractions are expected to be added soon.

Last year’s Picnic winner was none other than Outlaw Street racer Mark Todd and his twin turbocharged Pontiac who, in a timed shootout between three nine second door cars, put away the Chevy of Andy Murton; 9.43s to 9.68s, and Paul Houston’s Pontiac Firebird ‘turbo slammer’ a thousandths of a second behind at 6.69s. Now it’s 2011. So who’s gonna be the lucky racer this year to lift the coveted GP title!

The NASC are promising many things for this year’s show which will encompass the very best in the American muscle car, truck and bike scene. On the drag strip there will be plenty to keep the enthusiasts entertained with the many and varied selection of Run What Ya Brung categories. So let’s hope that you’ve brung enough! Other attractions include live band, late night bar & disco, trade stands, and more. So now there’s no excuse but to set the jolly old sat nav pointing towards sunny Stratford-Upon-Avon this May Bank Holiday weekend.
