Car Details:1969 SS, originally a 396, now a 350. Never having raced an American V8 before, I am not the world's expert on Camaros ! But I read Road & Track and HotRod Magazine from the early Sixties (yes, it's the only thing I can rememberabout the 60s) and always wanted one.

Also race a 1965 Alfa GTA, and drive a 1938 Lancia Aprilia and a 1922 Talbot 8.
I ran the '69 car in Historic Road Sports at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting this weekend, narrowly failing to beat the 5.5 litre de Tomaso Mangusta to 9th place - just 0.3s in it at the finish line. Only Lotus's and Ginettas ahead. The Camaro ran well and I beat last year's fastest lap by 2s to record a 2m 10s lap .... not great by the standard of the more highly developed Camaros, but not bad on drum brake rears and single piston floating caliper standard front brakes as required by the HRS rules.

This is a huge historic meeting with over 400 cars entered, great organisation, big crowds and excellent driving standards. I drove the Chev to and from the meeting from London and after 360 miles on M6 (aaargh !) and M40 can honestly say I am kn*ckered. Roll on Brands Hatch on Sept 28th ...
Nick

Well done Nick.. Sounds like a good day  (the drive to and from the track on race day is quite brave)

Good on you Nick! Like you, I drove my Mustang to Oulton Park some years ago, think I did it twice but never do well there. Decided not to do it this year with the way things are with me now. Glad to hear you got on OK and enjoyed it, Oulton is a challenging circuit IMHO.
We will meet again........
Cheers, Martin

Martin,
Good to hear from you ... I have missed our tussles at the last couple of HSCC meetings. Will you be at Brands Hatch (Sept 28th) and the Silverstone Finals ?
Nick

Hi Nick, I would have loved to be out there with you but just now it's not good. Brands is very unlikely but I will be very disappointed if I can't get to the Finals. Either way, we'll catch up for a chat before the onset of Winter (oh God!) and maybe next season will be a bit better for me (said that last year too). Take care.
Cheers, Martin
