Hello all, new to the forum done a bit of reading up, so I thought I would show off my little project! I'm hoping to use this forum for a little help sourcing parts too, as I have quite a bit to do! It's a 1995 Camaro Z28 Convertible, not actually my car, it's my godfather's, and he's had it for about 15 years, and has only 30k on the clock! Although it does need quite a bit of work, he just doesn't have the time to get it sorted as he works away, so he left it to me! He bought it 2 years old with 4k on and has gradually used it less and less, having only done some 200 miles or so in the last year, less than 5k in the last 5 years, and hasn't been serviced in 2007! Here's some pictures, to stop you getting bored, of how I picked it up: After a quick wash (much better!!): Started getting it polished, front wings, bonnet and bumper, but ran out of time as it was getting dark: List of things to do: New roof Sort roof mechanism Bits of paintwork Full interior valet (smells like damp inside) Boot catch / boot light switch Passenger door lock won't open Interior central locking switch Drivers door bottom seal General Service (oil, filters, plugs) Belts Fluids Brakes Air con (possibly needs compressor) Rear tyres Replace window tint Leather repair on driver's seat Wipers There's probably a few thing's I've forgotten already, but I'll update when I finish my list! Let me know what you think! |

Cheers man, I might well do that! A lot of the work I won't be doing myself, I'll take it somewhere mainly because I don't have the time to learn the ins and outs of the car. Where you the best place be to source original GM parts from? Stuff like the roof I imagine I will have to get from America, but what about service parts like filters and brakes? |

Looks like a great project... Could start getting expensive if it needs alot of new parts from sitting. Not sure if the low mileage is a good or a bad thing with some of these cars... Good luck with it, and more pics as is progresses please.. |

Cheers man, I'll keep posted with pics, next lot will be once the weather improves so I can finish machine polishing it and seeing exactly how much paintwork needs doing. The aim of this is basically to get it mint back to like it should be. My godfather has promised me that he is going to buy a cover for it and put it in his garage once its done! I don't think its going to need much to be honest, although it has been used infrequently it has still been used, driving it about I can't hear any knocking or bangs from suspension bushes or anything, so mechanically I think it will just need the things I've mentioned in the first post. Forgot to mention when I picked it up it took me an hour and a half to do 6 miles or thereabouts because the battery was so flat, it kept cutting out, luckily I had my dad with me so I could jump start from his car. Charged the battery up, car fired up fine ran it all day then drove it down from Newcastle to Sheffield where I am, left it stood for a day and battery was dead again. Found the light inside the boot was on constantly, draining the battery. I've unplugged it and it's fired up every time first try, so that's something for me to look at too. |

Little bit of an update... Finally got the thing polished up, and it doesn't look too bad!... from a distance. I'm happy with the shine though, miles better! Before: After: Loads of little niggly bits with the paintwork, like a poor previous repair, and the rust around the arches... Also noticed the two rear light clusters need replacing too... Seal has gone on one, so letting dirt in: Other lens is broken: |

Update! It's been a little while but the car has been in the body shop for a few weeks now getting the necessary work done. It's almost finished, should be ready to pick up next weekend. Also the new roof has arrived from the States, so just got to get that booked in now before I get the service work done! Busy times ahead! |

Well I've been quiet for a little while, got a couple of pics which I took at the end of last year, admittedly they are poor, but show the new roof and a picture of it when I managed to give it a coat of wax and some protection on the roof for winter, before handing it back. Now the weather is improving it looks like I'll be getting it back in about 3 weeks time, and the next big task is the pesky roof mechanism! It just doesn't want to fold right back down meaning rear visibility is a nightmare, I'm wondering if it could be the hydraulic cylinders... any thoughts? |

Looking tidy! Ive got some black salad shooter style wheels that would complement you white paintwork if your interested in returning the wheels to the original spec? Wouldn't want much for them. |
