Update!
She's been at the garage a while now. I'd told the guys that I'd rather they took their time than rush it and make sure it's right, rather than feel some sort of time pressure to make do and get it done.
Also, it's winter. So if she's tucked up inside while it's been chucking it down, then that's all good with me...

Anyway, popped round after work today for a look.
Had a text earlier asking if I'd a distributor to hand, as the one on the block wasn't looking happy at all.



I'm certainly no mechanic... but shouldn't there be splines on the end of that?!



Generally, not in a good way.

So, new distributor time. I've just gone for an OEM replacement, much as I'd love an MSD unit, this close to Christmas that's not happening.

Quick question though - should I be worried about the state of the cam?


Good news though -



The plenum's been polished. It's SO shiny. Of course, this means I'm going to have to be out with the cleaning rags more often, but damn is it SHINY.
And as we all, a shiny plenum's worth 5bhp at the wheels...

So new dizzy arriving wednesday. Hopefully back on the road for Christmas? We'll see!
If anyone's got an ally distributor cover, I'd love to hear from you as now I've got that dull plastic one which looks a bit duff now the rest of the plenums so damn polished!

She's home, and she's driving beautifully.
I'll try to get some better shots later, but for now, there's clear blue skies, the roads are dry, and it's above freezing so let's go for a drive!

Hello mate. Whilst I cringe at you calling your car Isabelle (sorry) I do love hearing your updates and always remember your actual car from the shows in the 90's and the magazine article. It's a beauty and well worth the time and effort you are putting into it.

Looks like she was well due the TLC with the dizzy being so worn etc. I too have the polished plenum and it all looks rather lovely doesn't it. Had to order the dizzy metal cover from the USA though.

Seems like she is costing you a fair amount in work at the moment, but she should run like a dream.

I know not everyone approves of the name, but hey, she's gorgeous and keeps my bank account light but I still like taking her out whenever I can... like the women I've known.
That was a little bit 'Swiss Tony' wasn't it?
It's not a big grand ground up rebuild, but just a case of keeping things going and updating bits and pieces as and when I can.
Until the lottery win comes in, when she'll be on a rotisserie and we'll have some fun...

Very small update:

The AIR piping into the manifold that was leaking got really, really bad. After a run to Exeter and back (at a steady 60 in the pouring rain) she was making a definite 'Putt' noise.
The valve on the AIR was deemed to be leaking terminally past the patched 'repair'.
So, dropped her in to the garage. The guys sleeved the joint, welded both ends, and she's fine.

I also lucked into an MSD Blaster coil on eBay for £16 - and it was local. Popped over to pick it up to discover someone with a late model Impala SS that was running 11's with launch control, 2 stage nitrous and a stroked, supercharged LS1 (if I recall rightly).

Coil fitted, and now she's making a really healthy spark again. Very happy.

I bet you're really glad to get that sorted out, roll on Summer eh?

Also the new anti roll bar bushes have silenced the rear end, so that's another niggle sorted.
My AC delete pulley has started squealing though, so just ordered a replacement.
Next month will be another radiator going in!

New rad fitted today!
Parts & labour for an OEM rad - £120.
So, rad's sorted... but we had some heavy rain here today, and where she was parked outside, I got in her to drive home and found that there was an epic drip from the headliner (sagging) all over the driver's seat and steering wheel.
So... that's body work bumped up the list. New windscreen? Now might be the time...

Have you found the source of the leak, is it through the door seals or do you have t-tops?
