It's all F###. just F###.
Sorted out the mirrors, managed to sort the dent out and it just needed a skim of filler. One of the bases had the bolts knackered, so drilled them out and will need to find self tappers or something like that of that diameter. So it's kind of complete. Not enough to tick it off the list as done of course. Still need a mirror glass - Rockauto have them and at a good price, only about $7. Shiping is $30 though, so that's F### annoying. What's worse is i ordered a couple of parts for the Trans Am from Rockauto on Friday and completely F### forgot about the F### mirror glass until right F### now. So i could have got that sorted but F### forget. F### sake. I sorted the door out on the passenger side, so that's now in 180 grit ready for paint, as is the drivers side rocker panel and drivers side door jam.
I moved onto the quarter on the drivers side and that's now in 120, moved up to the roof and found a couple of very fine imperfections. So used some upol liquid gold on there, sanded, needed a touch more, sanded, needed a touch more. Then i notived some areas of the roof were oilcanning... you know, when you put a bit slight of pressure, it pops down and spirings back up. If you havent seen it in the build thread, the car did have a sun roof. I deleted this, using some sheet metal and taking a very long time to spot weld together, literally all day, to make sure there was no warping. Anyway i must have missed it, it's basically on the rear pass side of where the sun roof would have joined... just further to the back a bit. where i was pushing down on it, it was flexing / oil canning. Well, easy enough to fix right? What's happening is the metal is under tension, so you need to heat and rapdily cool to get the metal to shrink, so that its not under tension anymore. A nice way to do this without an acetalyne torch is to put a spot of mig weld on there and douse with water. So found the tense area, did that and no. Just created another area that was warping. So tried to deal with taht with the same mehtod.. no, caused another F### area to warp. So after a whole F### evening wasted, i have a wavey motherfucking roof that i have absolutely no clue how to F### fix now. Even though i follwed how its supposed to be done to haave it done properly, no. jsut tfor the F### sake of it, no. made it F### way worse and set me god knows how long back. Whatever happens, a F### tonne of filler is gonna need to be skimmed and sanded. More F### dust, sweat and pain.It was so F### close. had in 120 grit and was just trying to smooth out a couple of feather edges. All because some F### thought it would be a great F### idea to get a F### sunroof. Still have the passenger side quarter and outside and inside door to prep, passenger side jambs, spoilers to 120 and 180, boot to prep. Somehow fix the F### roof. Then primer, then wait enough time for the primer to cure, sand it all, reprimer the breakthroughs that will come from sanding, sand again, paint, all while the decent weather is still here. Then put it all back together. F### ridiculous, this shit is just never gonna end.
Worth mentioning that the roof is of course doubleskinned, so you can't get a hammer or dolly to it. Plus, all of the interior is already installed, so would be painful to have to pull it all out again, including the headliner and try and install it again without damaging / scratching etc. _________________ How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option.
