Hi David,

That is PERFECT! Thank you for posting it, exactly what i was hoping for :D

Didn't get anything done on Sunday as i was knackered from Saturday. On Friday i managed to weld up the holes in the quarter panels as they are nothing like the one's needed for the stock side spoilers. The holes were elongated so needed to make small pieces to fill the area and weld those in. Luckily the trunk spoiler has the holes drilled in the correct area's - a little bit too narrow on the side ones, so need to elongate them by a few mm's. There are 2 holes drilled in the centre of the lid, just need an additional 2 drilled in the 1/3rd of the lid. One of the bolts on the spoiler is missing, so i will find a bolt of the same thread and resin it in place. The side spoilers should arrive towards the end of this week.

When working on the dent on the quarter (didn't look bad at all in the pic i posted, but it was quite out of shape), i found an additional dent below the body line, that was pushed in about a good 1/2inch or so. Worked on getting that as flat as possible and it's reasonably ok now. I sanded down the paint jobs that were under the spoiler, found a bit of surface rust, took a wire wheel to it and put some rust gel on there to kill as much rust of what was left as possible. It's still sat on there so need to get to it some more tonight. Angle grinder has also given up the ghost, just about managed to grind the last of the welds down!

So next i need to clean up the rust gel area's, hopefully it's killed off what was there by now. Then, go over the welded area's with some fibreglass filler, and start filling stage, i.e where the dent was, where the roof to quarter panel joint is. The spoiler is a touch wavey, so once that is installed, then sand and fill that too. Long week ahead!

So i ran out of rust gel yesterday, almost got all the parts cleaned up. I needed to take care of some pitted rust on the bottom of the driver side door (it had been dent pulled at some point with the old method of drilling a screw and using a slide hammer, then had been filled with regular filler that absorbed moisture. I'd welded up the holes but it was one of the very first repair jobs i did, so wasn't too skilled, and had done what i thought was satisfactory rust removal, but it turns out it was still pitted). The other parts with surface rust and slightly pitted rust were the bottom of both rear quarters, where the sheet metal turns in and is parallel to the floor ( hope that makes sense), the driver side quarter where the spoiler had been sitting and the driver side quarter where the dent on the rear was (had been fillered over and some parts had started to rust).

My approach for removing the rust has been to mechanically remove as much as possible using a wire wheel on an angle grinder, then going over with rust gel, agitating the gel after 20 miuntes or so, adding a bit more and leaving over night, wiping off what i could with a blue shop towel, then giving it another blast with a wire wheel. This has got rid of most of the rust now, just a couple of pitted areas that need a bit more tlc, so picking up some rust gel on the way home. Would like to get some filler on there tonight.

I put together a project plan yesterday and it looks like i will need to spend every evening and every weekend without fail working on the car and no hiccups, in order to have it ready by the end of this month, to make it useable for part of the summer. So not much of a social life (or life) for this month :(

So i was out in the garage till 3am, just noticed that the forum time is off by an hour. Managed to get most of the rust off, still a few little bits in the pitted areas. with the rust gel in there, i was scrubbing away with a wire brush which seemed to help clean up the majority of the pits. Left some more on for overnight, hopefully that should get rid of the last couple of bits. Metal looks nice and shiny now. If those few pits still won't clean, then i will go over with some rust neutralizing paint from Bilthamber, then go over that with some fibreglass filler to completely seal anything that's too stubborn.

I managed to almost finish the quarter to roof filler, took a few coats of filler to get it right. Driver side seems ok in 80 grit, had a couple of spots that needing a bit of filler adding, so need to go over with 120 and then should be ok there. Pass side same story. Didn't want to do any more sanding as it was starting to get light :wtf: but would have like to have checked that off the list. Not fun waking up this morning.

Still need to sort the quarter panel on the drivers side that had the dent in it. Then the bottom of the door will need a skim, once the rust bit has been taken care of.

Moving onto those parts tomorrow. Spoiler sides should arrive tomorrow / Friday, so need to get the holes located, drilled, test fit, then clean and sand and fill the spoilers to get them smooth too. Forgot that the trunk lid had a couple of waves, so that's on the list too. Need to add pics, don't have phone cable with me so will add when i have a chance today / tomorrow.

As of the end of the weekend, the roof to quarters on both sides are smoothed, the rear of the quarters are both smoothed (didn't realise the pass side needed attention, turns out it needed more attention than the drivers side that had a ding in it!). Bottom part of the bottom of the drivers door is done. Still need some TLC on the drivers door. Pass side was done a little while ago. Spoiler sides haven't arrived yet.

Next on the list then, tonight will be the holes for the spoiler - thanks to Flakmonkey i can mark up the correct placement, then test the centre spoiler fit. Hopefully the sides will arrive today, in which case i can test fit them too. Package has been with customs since last week Tuesday. Annoyingly, the customs facility is in the town next to where i work, so not exactly far. Once the spoilers are on, then they will need sanding and any filling / sanding as required. Would be nice to get all that sorted tonight!

Then after that, the trunk lid needs some filling and sanding. Then after that, the door. Then the mirrors need stripping / prepping. Then all of that needs 120 / 180 grit sanding. Then clean the garage (lots of dust, thought we were done with that) then primer for the remaining part of the car.

Day after primer i can start sanding the parts that were primered a few weeks ago. hopefully no breakthroughs so that it can be ready for colour.

Would be nice if they could let me know which post office it's so i could go there tomorrow and pay the import charges. Rather than wait for a letter to get to me by mid / end of the week :(

I've had that so many times, from Parcelfarce in particular, and always for a part you want quickly... bastids....

Sounds like you're really getting stuck in now and on to the final leg of prep..... :chevy:
