Dear All I have recently been contacted by the Police in UK who are investigating a case of sex abuse and I need your help!: "Dear Sir, I am investigating a historical allegation of child abuse which took place in 1992. It is alleged by the victim that she was sexually assaulted in the suspects car. Which was a Fire Red coloured Chevrolet Camaro, we have not been able to locate the vehicle however we have located and arrested the suspect for this crime, who has been less than helpful. The vehicle was a coupe, and the victim states that the vehicle had a red leather dashboard with a shiny metal glove compartment with electric windows and the switches were built into the door. Are you able to confirm a specific model to the above description?" Series 1 Camaros had their electric window switches (where fitted) in centre console, Series 2 Camaros - the same, and from what I can see so did Series 3 Camaros. Series 4 Camaros came out in 1993 and are therefore out of time. Although series 2 Camaros had power door switches in the door in later models (1981 for e.g). So what I need you to do is to photograph the interior of your 2 and 3 gen camaro interior if it is painted Bright red from the passenger's seat and post on this thread, as well as take photos of your Camaro if it has electric windows showing position of same. Can you help please? If this leads to successful prosecution then the power of the internet and the Classic Camaro Club will have been demonstrated!! OVER TO YOU.............. |

Hi Tim, 1st generation Camaros had their power window swirches in the doors. They had a 4 toggle switch on the drivers door, (see picture) a single toggle switch on the passengers door & single toggle switches on each rear 1/4 panel inside for the rear side windows. As to the glove box door it sounds as if someone had customised the car & had it chromed possibly?? Or, maybe it was a 2nd gen Trans Am & mistook the engine turned aluminium dash for being a part of the glove box door?? Here's a pic of the electric window switches in my '69, please excuse the dirty panel but it hasn't been finally cleaned yet :- This car also came with a centre console but there was no facility for electric window switches on the console. The '73-81 2nd gen had a similar set up of switches to the 1st gen, so I believe they would have been door mounted also. Some 2nd gens also power door locks fitted, which could have been mistaken for electric window switches, hope that helps cheers....Nige |
