Hi guys, I don't currently own one, so I hope you don't mind me posting. I have been after an American muscle/pony car for a long time, I have been fixated on them, since my school days, but of course, they have never been a realistic option for so many reasons in the UK. Now I am finally at a stage where I can afford and justify an American car as a second car, I am quite excited. Simply put my plan is this, I am not boring money or buying this on credit, I have already started putting away quite a bit of a money per month and intend to get a camaro in late march or early april. My budget is going to be between 3500-5000, I am looking for a fourth gen LT1, happy to take manual or auto and easy on colour. I have been looking around plenty on autotrader and fleabay, doesn't seem a problem to get one for that, even seen a few high mileage LS1 's creeping in for that money, particularly in the current state of the economy. I must also note that my brother is currently on a similar path, we have shared a love of american cars for a long time, just never been able to get them, hes looking for a 90's GT mustang. So again, hope you don't mind me jumping in here, this isn't a silly dream or punt, I am definately getting the car and just wanted to get on this board, as car enthusiast forums have proved extremely useful for the cars I have owned in the past. Just so you know, my daily drive is a landrover, I did own a Toyota MR2 until a few months ago but had to sell due to my expanding hobbies to get something bigger, despite all the cars I have owned, an American muscle or pony car has always been what I really wanted, have always wanted a 70 1/2 - 72 2nd gen camaro, but I have to start somewhere, fourth gen seems a good idea to me, so hello everyone. |

welcome aboard, and it really doesn't matter if you own a camaro, Yank or take the bus! As a prospective buyer its a good idea to join a forum before you buy to ask all of those questions you'll have buzzing about your mind! I had a 4th gen until recently and they are an excellent car to own as it is something you can just jump in and drive. I hope you enjoy the forum and get the car of your dreams. |

Yeh thanks, certainly I have had a lot of success with forums and cars over the years. I definately think a fourth gen is the way to go, I have never owned a yank car, and the only v8 I have had was a land rover discovery and the head gasket went two hours after I bought it, followed by a quick refund from the dealership I bought it from. I love second gen camaros, and a lof of the late sixties and early seventies pony and muscle cars, but I have to be realistic, both in budget, and the fact I know nothing about them. I have worked on and done some budget do up jobs on a few old landrovers, but I don't have the time for a project car. So yes thats the plan, I do have some questions, I have been doing a lot of research already, and of course if anyone round here happens to be selling an LT1 in the next few months, I'll be waiting. Its nice to see there are substantial communities in Britain for the camaro and other yanks, I have to say going to shows and stuff doesn't really interest me, I just want to enjoy the car, but its nice to have the community to chat to. I must also point out, the other main reason I have not had a yank up until now is my age, I am 23, will be 24 in March, so up until now I just haven't had the money or been able to afford the insurance to do something like this. |

hi, insurance should not be too bad im 24 i got my camaro isured with adrian flux for under £350 but thats with maximum no claims. hope you find a car soon |

Yeh thanks mate, sadly I don't have any no claims at all, although I have driven since 17 its been on other peoples policies, it was always ridiculously expensive to insure the cars I owned on my own name, I am just half way through getting my first years no claims now. Still, I am not too concerned, yes its going to be a bit of a premium, but it will go down quickly as I hit 25 and get some no claims discount. Are there many yank owners about in their early 20's? My brother as I said is getting a mustang and hes already found a group of stang owners in Bristol where he lives, fortunately hes 10 years older than me, so will find it a whole lot cheaper to insure! |

ive gone to quite a few meets here and ive been the youngest, i started with a v6 3rd gen now gone on to an iroc which hopefully will be sorted for the begining of the new year |

Fair enough, they have just appealed to me all my life, and I have no interest in a V6, I have driven and owned v6's, straight 6's, also driven turbo cars, nothing appeals to me like a V8. I went off jap performance cars ages ago, I actually thought a V8 discovery was a lot nicer to drive than the twin turbo straight 6 supra my brother had, its all about the low down power, and the sound of course. I just want to get started with an American car asap, I look forward to joining you all soon. |

well with the credit crunch recession and all that, there should be some cheap cars around and fuel keeps going down too! Good time to get into V8's before the government ban them for some silly reason they think up!!! |

Often camaros appear on ebay - I got my LS1 on there (albeit after the auction had finished and at a lower than advertised price!  ). Deffo right to get one - the low down power is great (to a newbie like me, anyway!). And very easy to drive (as long as you bear in mind its a big powerful beast that needs treating with respect).
