Hi Guys

Just wanted to say hello - joined up yesterday after becoming the proud owner of my first Camaro. I picked up my 1987 IROC Z28 yesterday and cant stop going out to the drive to look at it :D

Its actually my first American car and is pretty different to my last 2 "everday" day cars (Nissan 250z and Golf R32). I've been lusting after some V8 Muscle and even drove it through Leeds in rush hour this evening just to hear the engine.

My IROC is in pretty good condition - just passed its MOT but needs a little bit of TLC and maybe some light tuning over the winter, so I'm sure I'll be on here quite often getting some advice :)

I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow if anyone's is interested.

Cheers, Andi

Hi Andi, welcome to the forum

If you drve through Leeds you have to do the 'tunnel run' up the A58/64 thats the best place in the city area to drive it!

Were abouts are you from then, i live pretty near Leeds, actually live in Cleckheaton a small town about 12 miles away

Hi Guys - thanks for such a warm welcome - great to see there's so many people on hand to help out and enjoy the car.

Here's a few (not great) pics - I'll get some better ones up when its not pissing down all day.

Over the winter I want to give it (her?) a full service (doing as much as I can myself), get the auto box and clutch serviced and looked at, respray it back to its original darker blue and try and get the engine nice and reliable. There's also loads of stuff that could do with replacing, like Seatbelts, trunk gas struts, weather and water seals etc. It's been locked away SORN for the last 5 years so needs a little bit of TLC. Also need to replace that dubious aftermarket steering wheel the previous owner put on!!

I'd also like to do a few subtle and sympathetic tweeks to the engine so that I can give it a few cheeky runs down York Dragway over summer - what would you guys recommend?

Problems wise..
There's sometimes a bit of harsh rattle when you floor the accelerator.. Any ideas what I should be looking at?
Also, There's a small oil leak from the front rh side of the engine somewhere, and there does seem to be a very slight bit of water getting into the oil when you check the dipstick. BTW - probably a very stupid question - but I've yet to work out why there's 2 dipsticks?

Other than that's its just passed MOT so I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty over winter!

maudyZ28 - small world - I live in Gomersal!!

Cheers, Andi

2 dipsticks - one for the oil, the other one is the driver :lolno: ONLY JOKING!

The other one is probably your auto trans fluid. Is it back near the firewall? There will also be a dipstick inside the power sterring fluid cap, worth checking that too if you ever get any squeely noises when turning sharp at slow speed etc. Check your Tranny oil too, should be nice 'n' red.
