I'm beginning to wonder if the tyres on my '69 are beyond they're life expectancy to be honest. I've fitted a pair of used Yokohamas onto the rear of mine that my best mate gave me as they were surplus to his needs.(Thanks Mart  ) The problem is that I'm having a lot of traction problems to say the least. I took the car out for a run the other day on my "private road" & the car broke traction at 90 mph in 3rd. The same thing happened later in the day when exiting a corner in 3rd, I just squeezed the throttle gently & it tried to "step out" on me, kicking the car sideways. It's done this a number of times now & it's starting to worry me a bit as it's a bit unpredictable as to when it's gonna do it. Anything above 3000 rpm & the tyres will just try to fry themselves in any gear.  . If I was flooring it, I'd expect it, but not by just trying to accelerate gently. The car just overpowers the road at will. I'm probably going to swap my fronts onto the rear & see if that helps any. Failing that I need to spend some time possibly adjusting shock settings or looking into what else could be causing it to do this. Maybe it's just a bit too powerful   cheers....Nige |

what was it like with the previous tyres  I bet you're gonna say you've done loads of mods since the last set of tyres!!Considering tyres are the only thing that keep you on the road, its not something to be skimped on.......IMO

I bet you're gonna say you've done loads of mods since the last set of tyres!!Considering tyres are the only thing that keep you on the road, its not something to be skimped on.......IMO The car was bought as just a rolling shell, with all of the parts in cardboard boxes, so yes, I have done loads of mods since the last set of tyres . I agree with not skimping on things & this car has pretty much had the best of everything thrown at it. The tyres are Yokohamas, which are reputed to be about the best out there, so although they were part worn, there's plenty of tread & they're still unable to get traction cheers....Nige |

I've never used Yoko's but I've not heard a bad word against them......Falken I hear are pretty underrated to! |

i would second falkens, they are a pretty grippy tire, i run them on my 4th gen and although the car gets happy under full throttle in the wet, in the dry you have to give it some to make it step out, a sharp prod to the go pedle when pulling out breaks them but normal driving with light to mid acceleration and there are like glue |

The problem that I'm faced with is that I want to use the car for motor sport, which means I need to get a tyre that is A acceptable for the series I intend to run in & B will handle the power so that i'm able to get it down to the ground pulling out of corners. I'm only using light acceleration now & they're just getting blown away I've yet to try a full on high speed acceleration run with the car. I'm gonna swap my tyres around & see if it makes any difference, as I've got new ones on the front, cheers....Nige

Just checked my rear tyres & they were made in the 11th week of 2000, whereas my fronts were made on the 6th week of 2009. Looks like the fronts are too old to perform as they should. They go on to say that "any tyre over 5 years old should be seriously looked at".
