Post subject:  Maro to go.

After much deliberation I have decided that its time for a change, as much as I love my Maro I have had a burning desire for a rat rod (American V8 Powered of course) for a couple of years now, and I think that the time has come.

Have any of you guys had any experience of hot rods / rat rods and have any advice on the perils & pitfalls of buying & running them.

Does anyone on here think that I am making a mistake?

Be as honest as you like please, I really value your opinions.

Thanks

Nick.

I guess you need to ask the guys on the NSRA forum, as that's their poison!

If you feel you need a Rod, not a 'maro, then go for it.....you only live once!

Bit of a choice to make to be honest. I don't know if you've been following the rodding scene at all but there are some major changes in the pipeline regarding rodding. The major one comes as a directive from the government re BIVA/SVA testing. The majority of rods are fibreglass with new aftermarket chassis. To get these cars registered, lets just say that they are effectively "cloning" cars identity. If you want to PM me I'll let you know of the major pitfalls to owning a rod & the governments aim to prohibit rod building, as it's not really a subject for an open forum.
Even rods that have been on the road for a number of years are still likely to fall foul of these government proposals. The way things are going, personally I wouldn't touch a rod with a barge pole at the moment. I'd hate to pay out for a car only to have it confiscated. Personally I'd stick with the 'maro, as it's gonna save a lot of possible aggro in the future.
