having just done this show at Billing it was very apparent that the Mustang is the "king of the musclecars" over here. Why are they sooo popular compared to the Camaro?. The two forums for them are really busy, whereas we're slowly growing in size. So why have people over here chosen the Mustang route?? I don't get it. The strange thig is, that in drag racing circles, there are more Camaros than Mustangs Cheers..Nige |

In general I think everyone(99%) knows of a Mustang as an american muscle car. It has a name that is well known. Even if you speak to a complete non car person they would have heard of one. Where as with the Camaro, you would be lucky if a car enthusiast (non american) would have heard of one. You also have the songs and films which highlight the Mustang. "Mustang Sally" etc. You get the odd song here and then that refers to an IROC but thats about it. Transformers has helped and I always refer to Ranaway Bride which has my exact make and model. The amount of times I have seen people look all over my car with the discussion around what is it, when it has Camaro written on its bum, wing mirrors etc. They always think its american but not quite sure (the words Mustang and corvette come up). I then have to walk over and tell them..... Also when asked what car? You reply "Mustang" has a certain ring about it. When you reply "Camaro" they look at you blankly... So possible reasons why there are more Mustangs. I love my Camaro and can't understand why everyone doesn't have one... |

Yes, what Howie says. I've lost count of the number of times people have said to me "nice car mate, what is it, a Mustang?" |

It's funny but when I had a ford Torino lots of people used to ask if it was a camaro! But when I had a camaro nobody ever knew what it was! |

Mustangs (Bullet, 60 Seconds) and Dodge Chargers (Dukes, Bullet, Fast and Furrious, Blade) have also been immortisilsed as film stars where as I can't think of any films were the Camaro has been the lead. |

I guess you're all probably right , but why are there very few Mustangs in drag racing, compared to Camaros?? Ok I know the answer, in that the Chevy engine is probably easier to tune for power & parts are readily. cheers...Nige |

Agree with whats been said, everyone knows a Mustang or Corvette by name but the Camaro is a bit more unknown. Personally i prefer to own something a bit less common Cheers.......Tim |

It doesn't help when the National Papers last week printe a Megan Fox lookalike draped over the front of a 76 Camaro BumbleBee clone and despite them having it in their studios still referred to it in the text as "A MUSTANG" lol having said that this months Classic American they call an 87 Buick GrandNational a Chevelle and refer to the 72 Road Runner as 73 and 72 Charger on the same page- if the experts can't get it right what hope have the tabloids!!! |
