This has come about due to two different issues i have which are scratches and bugs Scratches and Bugs i hear you say My z28 is parked on the drive and the wifes a childminder and works from home so parents and kids walk past it daily And some of those parents and kids cant seem to walk past without touching it or having something brush it Its always the drivers wing that they cant leave alone !!!. The other issue is one we all have i guess and that is bug remains Not normally an issue but can be a pain when your off to a show to show off your pride an joy only to find it looks like its been involved in a paintball shootout !!. Then spend lots of time trying to get it back to mint like it was when you left home I have often thought about using clingfilm you know the stuff you wrap yer sarnies in but havent as yet So yeah whats your thoughts on cling film an paintwork ??? Yeah i could buy a car cover but dont want to due to scare stories of moisture being trapped and getting under the paint etc pics on that happing in another topic on here so not for me |

For bugs - if you are worried carry a spray bottle of quick detailing spray and a microfibre cloth to wipe them off. For scratches and stuff - hard to stop unless you park it out of the way somewhere. |

I do have some detailer I bought at last years speedfest and its good stuff it was more a case of not having to detail it once arrived It won't matter at speed fest as I'm camping so I'll get up detail it then drive 100yrds n park her up As for parking elsewhere my front of house already looks like a garage forecourt I may well try it on the wing mirror covers on the way up to brands see how it works if all good may try it on other parts Has anyone got any thoughts on cling film on painted plastic/metal panels ?? Could there be issues due to heat/cold/moisture ?? I guess moisture could have the same effect as some have found with car covers ie milky paint Everyone must have a thought on it Any body shop guys in here ??? |

I already have swirl marks on my camaro after doing some work on the engine bay, even though the fender had a cover on it! That was after cut and buffing it, soft paint Have you got any type of wax on it? That's always a good thing to have as it then creates a barrier between the clear coat. If you get the right type of cover then it will be ok for short periods of time. I had a cover on mine over winter for about 3 - 4 months and it just rained week after week it was insane. Every day there would be a puddle on the boot as the spoiler creates a valley. Despite all that, it was bone dry underneath. There were a few areas where a bit of very light mould had started up, but that's partly because i took the cover off then didn't put it back on it until night time when there was a bit of dew built up on the car. I got my cover from NPD and it's a breathable one, kept the water out and didn't seem to affect the paint. I think as long as you put the cover on when it's dry and take it off periodically you'll be ok. Then again, how bad are the scratches / swirls? Any pics? |

She's always polished with autoglym as for scratches they are very light an not worth a pic but shouldn't be there at all if the kids an parents had more respect I'm not keen on the car cover fix unwrapping it every time to go out in it then storing the cover As its only the wing they can't leave alone |

There's a high quality film covering you can get for stone chip protection on the front of your car, but probably a bit OTT and quite expensive for the sides.. |

Bug marks do my head it, I work shifts and often drive at dusk and it sometimes looks like I've hit a cow by the time i get to work/home with the Midge swarms. Try using Collinite 915 wax; best wax I've ever used. Bugs should wash of fairly easy with limited water or detail spray once its applied. |

Why not just cover the front wing when parked? |

That's what I'm doing with cling film !! Haven't found any signs of moisture being trapped under it either but will keep monitoring |
