I have a remote filter for my trans (RIP) which takes a Ford (Puke) filter.
So I bought another remote mount to take the same type of filter as used on the motor.

I got the remote mount, can´t install it as my original NPT to -6 AN fittings are too small.
This remote mount needs, as stated on the part overview, 1/2"NPT to -6AN.

So I order up the said parts, wait FOUR days yikes, and they arrive.

So I start to thread the 1/2"NPT fitting into the remote mount...NO, not a chance.
Four or five threads we´re okay then it just binds up solid.
I "fingered" it in, spannered it out. :lolno:
Even with fingers the threads got cut, like cross threaded. :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap:

Had to read that a few times! How strange, the fittings listed in each match up on paper, why would they not physically match up? NPT isn't like BSP is it, where the diameter gets wider the more you screw it in? Have you got any other threads about that you can try threading in, maybe the cut is wrong? Is there enough meat on the remote to tap your own thread that you then will 100% know the fitting and size of? Threads are always a nightmare, i'm sure there's a good reason that so many exist but it causes such a pain! Have you spoken to Summit about it?

I don´t have a tap in that size, also the holes in the remote filter mount are "blind".
The NPT to -6 fittings don´t seem to have a tapered thread either, but it was like five threads or so in and it all went wrong.
I´ve emailed Summit about it too.

Now I don´t have a filter mount for my chevy sized filter and I don´t have a Ford filter for my existing mount...

NPT is tapered and will go tight. Normal torque for them is 1 turn past finger tight.

The adapters never went in far enough to be leak free.
I had the same on a fuel block but I had the right tap to open
up the threads a little to get the adapter in.

I had that with a holley fuel pressure regulator. Can't remember if it's bsp or NPT, guessing being Holley it's NPT and same sort of thing as you're having. It just kept leaking. I ended up taking it out, putting it into a vice, using something like a 15" long wrench and torquing it so much, i though the unit was going break. It still leaked! I ended putting teflon tape on the threads, something i didn't want to do, but so far the leak has stopped. Wonder if that will help? Why aren't they using sealing threads like on brake lines on these types of applications, seems like a no brainer. Have Summit gotten back to you?

The filter mount instructions say not to use sealer. :eh:

Bugger, and i expect a phone call will be quite costly overseas.

Whilst i've been searching for a replacement line for mine, i've come across several remote filters and the all have the same thread size, 1/2 NPT so i'm not sure why yours is playing up. Do you have anything else that takes a 1/2 NPT fitting and something that requires a 1/2 NPTfitting -wonder if you can try the parts on different pieces and figure out which one is causing the issue. Maybe the threads weren't cut properly on one of them?

I always use sealer on all threads - it's fine as long as you use the right type.

Loctite 542 is good with oil, petrol and coolant

I contacted Summit by e mail.

This is the first time using 1/2 NPT.......more than likely the last... :lolno:

I´m looking at one of these right now.

And I´ve shot off another e mail to Summit asking them what 1/2 inch to -6 will fit PROPERLY. :lol:
